To be honest I think one of the biggest issues is cultural ignorance. When people do not know much about a person or their culture it kind of scares them! Fear of the unknown and all that.
I like to think that I look at people as people instead of their colour, religion or beliefs. You can not go far wrong with basic human decency and respect for others, they are the foundation of most cultures.
I think some of the issues that people may have is the huge changes in Britain now that we are very much multi-cultural. Some people think Britain should stay the same. Some think that we shouldnt have to change to suit the cultures of those who move to Britain. I am not saying they are right to feel that way but I can understand their fears.
What other country in the world would consider changing everything about itself to suit others? I know that none of the countries in Asia, Middle East, America etc would make changes to suit people from other countries. I think that Britain is far from being a racist nation, in fact I think that Britain has embraced multi-culturism.
