Dexter said he has dyslexia. He has been called stupid his all life and was bullied because of it. He also said he has dyspraxia, which explains why he struggles in social situations.

Doesn't matter Hadouken, if someone drowned in the pool and Callum gave them CPR and saved them he would be creepy for doing it.

My lovely daughter was an undiagnosed dyslexic right up until she went to uni.
She struggled, she had to work harder, we had to help her more. But she still managed to leave school with 11 GSCE, went onto uni got her A levels then on to do her masters. She is now HOD in secondary school.
My daughter never considered herself stupid and we would never have allowed her to. We did pull our hair out at not being able to find out what her problem
was.
Perhaps Dexter did not get the support at home, might not have had as good a school etc, but I will stand by my statement that being dyslexic does not mean you are stupid.

Of course it doesn't this guy will use any trick or manipulate any situation to his advantage, he is thinking about nominations and trying to play the pity card is all to guilt trip the other HM's.
If he does have dyslexia using it in this context was a PR stunt and nothing else.

@Bold and i suppose you have seen how Dexter's family handled the situation that you are making such theories, what an awful assumption to make about someone elses family....

Of course being dislexic doesn't mean you're stupid. But i think some dislexic people feels that way. Maybe because they didn't get the support they needed.

He's still a little cock so it makes no difference to his persona.

..I'm glad that it didn't hinder your daughter smudgie and of course dyslexia doesn't reflect your intelligence but the effect on everyone's learning who has it isn't the same and that's hugely to do with when it's diagnosed as well and how much support that person gets which I'm sure you know....

Dyslexia and dyspraxia are totally unrelated to intelligence. One can be a very intelligent person with dyslexia or one can be a very unintelligent person with dyslexia.

Dyslexia isn't the same for each person. There's a whole range of symptoms/characteristics that come with dyslexia, and for some it is more disabling than others. It isn't (as i am sure you know given your experience with your daughter) just about reading difficulties. For some it is also about organisational difficulties: the ability to sequence information may be affected. It may affect the ability to learn to tell the time (often creates confusion between quarter to the hour and quarter past for instance). It can affect little things like how to organize your work folder, how to plan your day.

Being dyslexic doesn't mean someone is stupid. And some people manage through hard work and a range of coping techniques to succeed very well in academia despite it. But different people experience dyslexia differently, and whereas your daughter, through hard work and determination managed to do very well academically, others may require the same level of work and determination just to keep their heads above water.

Dexter said he has trouble even writing his name correctly.

I had a student once who couldn't pick his name from a register. Couldn't tell left from right, couldn't tell the time. He had begun to drop away from the other kids at an early age, during the first couple of years of primary school. He spent most of his school life skipping classes, causing trouble, being labelled as stupid and eventually went on to develop a serious alcohol dependency. His opinion of himself was very low.

But he was a brilliant artist. And frankly one of the most intelligent people I have ever met. Not educated, but very intelligent. Absolutely broke my heart.

I think his dislexia and dispraxia is the reason Dexter is so misunderstood in there. He just struggles to get his point across and it shows. If only the housemates knew they would not be so hard on him.

That and there's clearly been some sort of disconnect with his Mum. Which might explain some of his odd views about women.

I actually quite like Dex. He's an interesting lad.

Callum was not very sympathetic, but Gina reacted quite strongly when Dexter mentioned he was bullied. Bless her.

Last nighton the live feed when Gina stepped back from the conversation and said 'I know what's going on here ' she looked annoyed and then she said to Dexter don't put yourself down.I think Gina caught on to what Callum was doing ,he was baiting Dexter.

Some people have commented on this on DS, but i'm not sure. Gina hasn't sussed Callum gameplan yet.
