Default Sugababes to split?

Quote:
Jade Ewen has told Digital Spy that the Sugababes are "pretty much done".

The singer confessed that she can't see herself ever returning to the studio with Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah, and has been working on solo material.

Speaking to DS at the recent BMW i3 launch, Ewen admitted: "I don't even know if the band stuff is going to happen again, if I'm completely honest.

"I think Amelle wants to do her own solo stuff, Heidi is doing a Happy Days musical... I think we're pretty much done.

"I'm working on solo material at the moment actually. It's only come about in the past three weeks, so it's quite a new project.

"No-one's really seen me yet. I sang for Eurovision, I've been in a band, but I don't think anyone really knows what I'm about."

Ewen added that she wants the current Sugababes line-up, who went on hiatus in 2011 after releasing their album Sweet 7, to go on tour with original band members Mutya Buena, Keisha Buchanan and Siobhan Donaghy, who are now performing as MKS.

"I would love to do a giant tour of all the Sugababes, old lineup and new lineup," she said. "That would be awesome, it would sell out.

"That's easy for me to say though, I don't know how that would go down [with the other girls]. But I'm definitely up for it."

Berrabah claimed back in May that the Sugababes were thinking about recording new music in 2014.

Does that count as a genuine line up though, the one with Jade?

All I remember from them is one single they gave away for free.

She shouldn't have bothered joining, since for Sweet 7 they just rerecorded all the songs they had already done with Keisha with Jade's vocal, but the lead single Get Sexy still featured Keisha.

The current line up haven't done a full album together yet. They shouldn't bother tbh

Not really surprising. It's hard to know why they failed - lack of confidence is the main factor more than anything I think, either the girls themselves or their management/label or perhaps both. You do need to remember that despite the line-up change; they managed to score top ten hits with About A Girl and Wear My Kiss. The album tanked but that wasn't necessarily anything to do with the girls themselves; it had been leaked months before it was released and the sampler with Keisha's vocals were already on it. It was the same situation as Amelle's version of Taller In More Ways not being popular because Mutya's version had already been released.

I think if they'd had more faith in Freedom and actually released it, they could have slugged it out. Radio didn't get behind the release but I think that was probably down to politics more than anything, the actual song itself was pretty good and it fitted in with what was on the radio at the time; radio snubbing them was a huge blow but they should have persevered instead of putting out as a limp free download and letting what little momentum they had left fizzle out. It's a shame for Jade Ewen - she's a very talented singer, beautiful and she's been reduced to a punchline in a long running joke about the tainted Sugababes name. I think if she'd replaced Heidi; the Sugababes would have gone in a very interesting new direction that could have worked extremely well, but obviously that was never going to happen; it was Amelle or Keisha who had to go and Heidi made her choice.

I like all three of them as people and the thing you can't deny about each of the six people who have been in that band is that they are all phenomenal singers. It's just a shame it all ended in this way. I wanted MKS to get the name Sugababes back for a while, but now I think even if they were offered it, they'd be better off staying clear of it. It's been ruined by politics and bad attitudes.

Jade would have been better staying solo.
My Man was a tune and got forgotten half way through promo.

I agree, but taking a spot in the Sugababes was probably a far better choice at the time than standing by solo material that wasn't looking to set the charts alight. My Man was on course for the top 40 (I believe it charted in the 30s somewhere despite abandoning promo?) but it wasn't like she was a huge star at that point. I think the main problem with her replacing Keisha was that despite Jade being a good singer, her voice paled in comparison to Keisha's. Her vocals sounded paper thin compared to Keisha's and it just showed that the band was only as good as the singers in it. If she'd replaced Heidi she would have been replacing the weak link in the band and they would have had an incredible image and could have feasibly chased a sexy urban sound, but instead she replaced Keisha and it was just a car crash.

I hope Jade finally gets a shot at a successful venture but I think she squandered all her chances.

The only reason they hadn't split up before was because they were still making money out of doing private gigs because people were happy enough to hire the Sugababes to cover material that only one of them was featured on - but now that Mutya Keisha Siobhan are back in business, they wouldn't even make money doing that anymore because 2/3rds of the most successful incarnation of the band are back together. Not splitting up officially means they've still got the option to come back and they can still claim the name, but making it official just sort of closes the lid on the coffin IMO.

I just think it's a sad way to end one of the most successful British girl groups of all time. They lasted for over a decade in their various forms; were actually involved in the writing process when it came to their material (until that ill fated 7th album) and most importantly, were not launched on a reality TV show or formed through formal auditions like most of their logical peers.

Up until Change they split everything three ways; thereafter it was mostly Keisha, then on Sweet 7 they had no input or barely any
