With alot of countries going down the route of having a president rather than having a Prime Minister thus taking away the royal family but should this happen in the UK? Do you like the country having a royal family and the income through tourism it brings or do you feel it's an outdated?

I like the traditional aspect that the UK has. We're a country based on our monarchy. We have people traveling here from far and wide just to visit us because we have a world-famous monarchy.
The UK is generally seen as a traditional country, and asked to name features of the UK many of us would mention the monarchy - and I suppose I like that. I say stick with the PM as opposed to a president. |

I think Britain is unique in the way that it is, and it's not only about the tourism but simply the association Britain has with having a monarchy. Although the Royal Family has no power and it's the Prime Minister who takes legal and national decisions, having the two together makes the UK the UK and it's a different method and route to follow in terms of running a country. I don't see why that needs to be changed simply because other countries seem to be following a different system, when our own seems to be doing fine in terms of ruling the way it is.

Do the monarchy actually do anything? I quite like that Britain have a monocarchy. The Royals provide great gossip! Ok so that isn't seriuos but people do love them so might as well keep them.

I think we should remember how many of our ancestor's gave their lives "for queen and country" and stand by our royalty, thats not to say a lot of them are just hangers-on and nothing but parasites.

I say we should abolish the monarchy.
The Queen is the head of the Church of England. We live in multi-cultural country. Not everyone is a C of E Christian. We have catholics, muslims, buddhists etc, etc... The monarchy is outdated. Women are not equal in the monarchy. The rules and regulations they live by are outrageously prejudiced. Abolish it. It's past it's sell-by date. |

I assume you were being tongue in cheek there easypeasy.
However, I have no problem with churches or religion or people who want to follow it, but I do have a problem with my taxes paying for Chaz's ski-ing holidays and Camilla's new shoes. |

Taking away the monarchy would be like taking away the 'A' in America, Baguettes from France and egg fried rice from China. It's a part of Great Britain and taking it away would be unacceptable because it's both part of our history and heritage. Outdated? I disagree, the amount of revenue they create from tourism alone squashes that theory. They are Great Britain in my eyes.
I'm happy with the way the country is run at the moment, it's just whom should be at the helm for it too work. Presidency would only confirm how far we are stuck up America's backend. |

Britain wouldn't be what it is today without the monarcy.
From Queen Anne to Henry the VIII, they all played major roles in our future and made it what it is today. Scrapping a 1000 or so years of history saying they aren't a good representation of our country is laughable, they are a great representation of our country showing through adversity/ war, they are still here and going strong. |

Granted they did well however many years ago, and that is part of our HISTORY, and that should be cherished and taught and kept alive as our HISTORY. They are in no way a good representation TODAY, they don't have a clue about real life. All they know is their family is living nicely, and they know they will do probably for many many many many years to come. |

Well without the history, there would be no today, there would be no democracy/ freedom of speech/ laws. So saying it's all about today isn't exactly right, a history makes you what you are.
