Default Warehouse Project in drugs testing pilot

I don't know how many of you are aware, but on Friday a man collapsed, and later died, after taking drugs at The Warehouse Project,a club in Manchester, and 7 others were taken ill and treated at the scene, and in hospital for the same.

Again, on Saturday night, 7 clubbers collapsed from, what is thought to be, a bad batch of ecstasy. A 25-year-old man was also arrested after security staff at the venue suspected him of dealing drugs. He was later taken to hospital after swallowing "12 snap bags of suspected drugs", whilst in police custody. He fell into a coma, but threw the bags up, and has since been discharged.

The club provides security, and pays for policing. From 12 October, The Warehouse Project will test suspected illegal substances seized on the premises in a laboratory set up within a trailer. Warnings will then be sent out via social media about what has been found and what they contain. A club spokesman said they would be taking steps to tackle the drug taking, including increasing the use of dogs and paramedics and looking to bring in a doctor.

Sacha Lord, from The Warehouse Project, said: "For the first time ever in club history in the UK, the Home Office will fund a trailer.

"Any drugs confiscated are going to be put through a machine, which in seconds evaluates what is the makeup of that particular confiscation. We can then send out messages via social media during the event.

He added: "This isn't something that's just happening at the Warehouse Project, this is a national issue.

The three councillors of the ward which includes the club, have now written to Trafford council’s public protection committee to urge a review of the clubs licence.

This really annoys me. The club obviously has a lot of measures in place to try and combat the problem, but it's a reality that it's always going to be there. It will never be eradicated. The police have actually spoke of how well the club is ran. It seems the council are trying to get the clubs licence revoked. What good will this do? It's not going to get rid of the problem, it's just going to move it elsewhere, where there are less measures in place for the safety of clubbers.

I saw this happen in the late 80's/early 90's with the rise of house/rave music and the arrival of ecstasy as the preferred drug of choice for clubbers. The councils and police closed down anywhere where there was any trouble or any "incidents" involving drugs, and I think they ruined it for people. It clearly didn't dispense of the problem.

Why let the minority spoil it for the majority? I wondered if anybody else had a view on the matter.

Apparently they're green and have an apple on, you would have to close every club in every town to stop it.

Used to go to a club in Liverpool called Ferrari's, great club, great music, good promotional nights with drinks offers, loved going there, went every weekend for over a year then all of a sudden it was getting raided regularly for drugs and got shut down. Sad that undesirables ruined it
