I had a conversation with a lady working in a charity shop a few weeks ago, and commented on how different charity shops are these days. They used to be very basic, and as they should be, very cheap, whereas now the interiors of many of them are more upmarket than half of the retail shops surrounding them, they only sell immaculate clothes, and half of it is only 25% - 50% cheaper than full retail price brand new.

She simply said; "Well, it's big business these days, isn't it?"

That says it all in my opinion.

I used to put one of my businesses on an annual charity wall chart and donated £150 each time....I did the same a few times..Till the calls came more regular, I said that I had donated within the past 12 months so how is it annual? the saleswoman said I was mistaken, I checked my bank account and Id paid 4 lots in 2 years....so I realised it was twice a year. I told them the next time they rang I didn't want to do it anymore...A few weeks later I had a legal letter threatening to sue me?

I don't watch charity tv shows, I detest the FACT many of the people presenting are millionaires who barely pay tax, they certainly pay less as a percentage of income than 99% of the viewers who donate....look at U2 and Bono or phil Collins? Look at Jimmy Carr?

we pay enough in taxes that no children should be in need, we pay plenty that life and death illnesses should be treated as a number 1 priority...also that nonsense like getting plastic boobs or penis enlargements on the NHS is a complete and utter disgrace
Then again I have written here and in many other places about common sense ways to improve the NHS and they didn't seem too bothered. though one politician did at least take some ideas on board

honestly more common sense with the nhs would save 10000s of lives and billions of pounds

instead weve been suckered into going down the route of euthanasia , fuel poverty and general defeatism.
