Water and bleach in a bottle is the way forward.

I only use gas for heating and hot water. I have an electric cooker that works so well.

We cook with electricity too... I think that really highlights how much gas has increased in the last 15 to 20 years (and how electric heat generation has improved). When I was young, no one wanted to be in a house in an area that didn't get a gas supply because it was so much cheaper for cooking. These days, "cooking with gas" is madness... It costs an absolute fortune.

I wish I owned my own home, renting is really restrictive. In my University shared house, we had triple glazing and a very energy efficient water tank in the garage (held enough for 4 full baths, or 40 minutes of showers, at a time) and bills were miniscule. Now I'm in a private rental with crap double glazing and a multipoint boiler that guzzles gas. meh.

I'd love to install solar panels, insulate the place to the max, and get one of those water tanks and stick two fingers up to the energy companies.
