I haven't seen the Shield but I've only heard good things. First two seasons of Homeland are awesome too (though it gets a bit silly in the second), third one's a bit meh.

The Shield was way better, imo.

Homeland was good at first then started to drag.

The Shield by a considerable distance. I actually think it edges The Wire in terms of entertainment value per episode.
