Unfortunately Natalie Gumede will not perform in tonight's show due to fainting in our Dress Rehearsal this afternoon. After being checked by our medical team on site she will attend A&E as a precaution.
As per the rules of the show, Natalie will have a 'buy' into next week and the show will continue with a public vote. Join us in wishing Natalie a speedy recovery! |

Strictly's Natalie Gumede: Rehearsals have left me completely deflated this week, Saturday is going to be the toughest yet - EXCLUSIVE BLOG ..By Natalie Gumede | the juice – Thu, Nov 7, 2013 16:24 GMT.. . Corrie star Natalie Gumede is blogging exclusively for Yahoo as she tries her luck at Strictly Come Dancing this year with partner Artem Chigvintsev. Week seven is here - and despite amazing scores last week, Natalie is definitely feeling the burn as she and Artem struggle to make it through rehearsals. Week seven, and the good ship Strictly sails on. I however, am starting to feel in deep waters - my feet haven't touched the ground for two months now and there's definitely a feeling of illegality, and not just in the dance competition sense. It definitely should be illegal to be so sore and exhausted, and there seems little justice in working an eight-hour day and still not get a simple eight counts of steps right. Team 'Nartem' (I prefer Chigvints-Ede, but it doesn't seem to have caught on ) have done really well in the competition so far, and that is all down to Artem's vision as a choreographer, drive as a teacher, and magnetism as a performer. After last week's amazing scores, however, Artem is feeling the pressure of having set the bar so high for me and is equally tired. As contestants on Strictly, we rely so heavily on our dance partners for guidance, relentless support, to help cover our mistakes and to build our confidence. We forget that although they are professionals - and the very best in their field - they are human too. They get equally nervous performing on Saturday night, sometimes more so because normally when dancing they would have another professional as their partner, not a quivering wreck of a liability of a contestant who may not be able to cope with even one of the plethora of things that could go wrong. Artem never has an opportunity to switch off from the competition, when he isn't teaching or performing with me, he has to think about choreography, concept and music for each dance. It's an all-consuming three months and energy levels peak and trough. This week we are definitely 'troughing' and after the high of last week, the jive has brought me back down to earth with a bump, and not the bounce that the dance requires. Yesterday my mind was a fog with no information able to shine through, and I left the rehearsal studio completely deflated as we ended the day way behind the level we would normally be at by now. Today's schedule saw us arrive in Manchester, complete BBC Breakfast and Radio 5 Live interviews, rehearse all day and then switch the Christmas lights on at the Trafford Centre before returning to London. That's a lot of experiences for one day and retaining technique under those circumstances becomes a bigger challenge than normal. Looking over Salford Quays on a grey day, I'm waiting for the fog to clear, and as we are dancing to Tina Turner this Saturday, I hope we can make Mary Proud! |
