Shush now - it's true that he himself would want that issue discussed far more than his own death, and it's true that willfully ignoring these obviously massive issues in favor of publishing endless and excessive obituaries is ironically making a mockery of everything this man stood for. But don't you understand, arista? Don't you see? There are more important things at play than his politics, here. He was not just a great man and a great politician, don't forget. More (most) importantly - he was a political celebrity.

A celebrity! A CELEBRITY, Arista... has died! All other news must wait for its proper time. Don't worry, it shouldn't be too long. He might engulf the press for slightly longer than Ms Thatcher, but I don't think we're going to venture into Michael Jackson territory. That would just be excessive. He didn't even have any cosmetic surgery.

'No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite'.

Marvellous words Smile

“If you want to make peace with your enemy, you have to work with your enemy. Then he becomes your partner" - From his autobiography Long Walk to Freedom, published in 1994.

“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear"- From his autobiography Long Walk to Freedom, published in 1994.

“The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall"- From his autobiography Long Walk to Freedom, published in 1994.

"I have fought against white domination, and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. It is an ideal which I hope to live for and to achieve. But if needs be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die" - Statement from the dock at the opening of the defence case in the Rivonia Trial, April 1964.

"I greet you all in the name of peace, democracy and freedom for all. I stand here before you not as a prophet but as a humble servant of you, the people. Your tireless and heroic sacrifices have made it possible for me to be here today. I therefore place the remaining years of my life in your hands." - Addressing the crowds after his release from prison after 27 years.

"I am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that comes from nature or nurture, I cannot say. Part of being optimistic is keeping one's head pointed toward the sun, one's feet moving forward. There were many dark moments when my faith in humanity was sorely tested, but I would not and could not give myself up to despair. That way lays defeat and death" - - From his autobiography Long Walk to Freedom, published in 1994.

"Never, never and never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another and suffer the indignity of being the skunk of the world. Let freedom reign" - Inauguration speech as President of South Africa, May 1994.

He was a very important man, Arista. This is an historical event. One that people will reflect on for hundreds of years. Syria will still be there next week.

Does Camoron really think one half arsed apology for the years of campaigning to maintain the apartheid regime is going to wash?...

Tories will hate that, autumn statement was the first time since they've taken power where they've actually been able to give good news while Balls' reply to it has been widely panned

Aw, would have liked to see that what a stupid time of night to put it on, what good news?... Due to the caterwaulling from the tory benches it's surprising anyone heard any of what Ed had to say. But that's not for discussion on here.

[Rod Liddle condemned as he leads
the complaints against the BBC

for focusing on death of Mandela instead of the weather]

Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...#ixzz2mlzEMpFd

[Liddle's comment was aimed at the
BBC as the broadcaster came under
fire for its round-the-clock coverage
of the liberation hero's passing while
storms batter Britain's North Sea coast.
He wrote on his Spectator
blog: 'For Christ’s sake BBC,
give it a bloody break for five minutes, will you?
'It’s as if the poor bugger now has
to bear your entire self-flagellating
white post-colonial bien pensant
guilt; look! Famous nice black man dies!
Let’s re-run the entire history of South Africa.
'That’s better than watching the
country we’re in being flattened by a storm.'

The former editor of Radio 4's
Today programme added:
'Look; I'm sorry Nelson Mandela is dead.]

RIP Nelson Mandela. What a great man he is/was, he went through some tough times but fought for equality and was a great a leader to the people he proudly represented in South Africa.

My thoughts are with his loved ones and people in SA!

in my opinion far too much as been laid at the feet of this man, in the 27 years he had been in prison, the world had moved on, and what was going on in south Africa was no longer going to be tolerated by the rest of the world.

don't get me wrong this man suffered for what he believed in, but no one is talking about the people that where killed by the death squads.
or shot dead on a peaceful protest.
in the end it was the white government in south Africa that allowed the changes to happen.
