Their apparent chemistry in the Australian jungle proved to be the highlight of an otherwise underwhelming series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!
But less than a month after jetting back to the United Kingdom, Joey Essex and Amy Willerton have reportedly called time on their short-lived romance.
The pair hit it off while taking part in the last series of I’m A Celeb – won by Westlife star Kian Egan – despite Amy repeatedly flouting the rules by stashing contraband items in her rucksack, resulting in a series of confrontations with her campmates.
While Kian later insisted Joey’s relationship with the former Miss Universe was the real thing, sources claim they have since opted to break things off – scuppering reported plans to develop a fly-on-the-wall show around them.
‘Joey’s now hot property and she will be gutted not to cash in on his success,’ an insider told The Sun.
‘ITV hoped they would stay together and star in their own show, but now it won’t happen. Things fizzled out towards the end of December.’
News of the split comes shortly after Joey was spotted enjoying an intimate meal in London’s Brick Lane with a mystery brunette.
Last month Joey’s ex, Sam Faiers claimed he is just friends with Amy, in spite of their apparent closeness after returning from the Aussie jungle.
She said in an interview with this week's edition of OK! magazine: 'I know the real Joey. And I honestly don’t think he really has fallen for her. I think they’ve just developed a good friendship.'
Sam has been rather vocal about how dubious she finds the pair's romance since they left the jungle, previously dismissing it as a 'publicity stunt'.
She said: 'If they had such a strong connection, why didn't something happen in the jungle? I think they're both trying to keep the hype from the jungle going. I don't believe it.
'Surprisingly, it doesn't hurt as much as I thought it would. I'm sad and disappointed that it's all been done so publicly but I'm not heartbroken.'
