Default New Big Brother Blow - Carphone Warehouse contract axed. (and related topics merged)

Breaking news from Sky News:

Updated: 10:04, Thursday March 08, 2007

Carphone Warehouse is to end its £3m a year sponsorship of Channel 4's Big Brother.

The company had suspended the deal during the Celebrity Big Brother racism row.

Jade Goody, model Danielle Lloyd and singer Jo O'Meara were accused of bullying the show's eventual winner, Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty.

Carphone Warehouse is worried about bad publicity In a statement the company said: "We constantly review our sponsorship relationships and feel that, having suspended the sponsorship during this year's Celebrity Big Brother, now is a good time to look at the partnership again.

"We have concluded that the huge publicity around the show and our involvement within that means that now is the time for us to look for an alternative."

During the series viewers watched former dental nurse Goody launch a tirade of abuse against Ms Shetty.

She has since denied being racist, had anger management counselling and recently returned from a visit to India where she made a large donation to a children's charity.

Danielle Lloyd was questioned by police over the show and her relationship with footballer Teddy Sheringham crumbled.

Jo O'Meara told Sky News she was so badly affected by the publicity she was too afraid to go out.

In an exclusive interview with Sky News Shilpa Shetty said she did not think the behaviour towards her was racist, but that it was bullying.

She said she carried no grudges, although she made it clear she would not met Jade on her Indian trip.

Channel 4 said it was now in talks with other brands in a bid to find a new sponsor.
