I've seen both versions of it.

I watched a documentary (could have been about the book) where it reckoned that the morlocks were based on servants. The way servants in a grand house would use underground passages to carry out their duties. Well anyway the person's theory was that he based the concept on them as he used to sometimes accompany his mom who worked as a lady's maid when Wells was younger.

Yeh that seems like a good thing to base the morlocks on. I'd love to know what he based the eloi on

I liked the original better I think, the whole über morlock thing didn't sit right with me though I liked guy Pearce as the time traveller and the concept of him losing his loved one over and over as he tried to save her from her previous death.
