I'd rather it not get renewed and then take a break and come back later and take it back to how it used to be instead of renewing it and keeping it the same tacky stuff it is now.

But if they intend to make the show better/less tacky then it could be a good thing that they want to renew it.

Where does the current contract take BB? To this year or next?

To the end of 2014 (so BB15 or CBB14 will be the end of it).

Hopefully if it is planned to be renewed it will happen very soon!

Ah good. If this year is the end of the contract hopefully they cut the second CBB for next year.

Or even better, give us a CBB free 2015. But I suppose that won't happen.

If it were to be axed now it would never come back, that would be it for good. Besides no changes are ever going to bring back the early C4 years, accept that the show's changed or move on.

We'll have to wait and see, Viacom will have a say, but Endemol will still produce the show.

The summer run. A renewal would take it up to BB17.

It was expected anyway, but it's nice to be reassured.

Here's the important bit:

"It is thought that Viacom has plenty of admiration for the job done by C5’s management team and is inclined to retain the likes of Ben Frow, currently C5 director of programmes. It will also look to secure key C5 programming brands, most notably Big Brother."

No, their rights to the format expire then but Endemol are only contracted to produce one more series of each, which will air this summer.

It is improving so much tbh BB14 wasn't that great it kind of died half way through but I could still watch it unlike BB11

also the ratings have improved every year for the normal series

Hate it when people say this. What makes you know what will happen in the future?

And sorry for actually wanting the show to improve. It's not a case of 'accept it or move on', I can still enjoy the show but still hope that it starts to regain some of it's old features.

You can hope all you want, we will never see another BB3 or 5, or anything like them. The circumstances have changed, reality's changed.

I don't think you're quite getting what I'm saying.

There will ALWAYS be that little part of me that wants BB to go back to the good days, but I know it'll never happen. Telling me to 'accept or move on' isn't exactly a solution to the problem.

I bet you won't find one person on here who prefers this type of style to the 'Golden era' style.

Of course reality has changed, but true BB fans will always want the show to go back to it's roots and become a real social experiment again.

Yes of course MTV makes many UK shows
so Viacom know Big Brother Ch5 viewers are bigger than their MTV

I get exactly what you're saying, and I'm saying, hope for it, want it, whatever, it's just not going to happen. The old show's viewed through rose tinted spectacles anyway, people complained just as much then as they do now, just about different things.

"It is thought" doesn't mean anything sadly.
