Default Cancer fundraising lad Stephen Sutton mocked by trolls

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...n-charity.html

Quote:
Stephen Sutton won thousands of fans for his bravery in face of disease.
He raised £3million for Teenage Cancer Trust through his 'bucket list' posts.
The teenager was allowed home from hospital after partial recovery.
But he's mercilessly mocked online by trolls who question his illness
He is forced to defend himself, telling them: 'My cancer is incurable'.
FFS, folk are way way way too cynical. Even if a miracle happened -sadly unlikely - it shoild be a celebration.

Sad....but I expected it to start happening, especially after his health took a sudden turn for the worse and then he managed to fight. I've been following his story for a while.....they guy is a selfless human being and hopefully, the keyboard warriors won't faze him too much....what he has raised for Teenage Cancer Fund is amazing

When I read the topic title I expected the comments were going to be a lot worse. While I still think they are very disagreeable the ones quoted in the article were at least coherent and one or two were at least a kind of remorseful cynicism.

I was expecting the kind of calibre of comment to be like 'ha ha die ya bastard' and stuff like that.

At least the vast majority of people were very respectful and happy he made some sort of recovery.

I don't see any trolling there. Hurtful cynicism, yes, but that isn't trolling. I think people are genuinely questioning the story and, whilst that may well be misplaced, you have to ask, is it not understandable? Why are people so cynical? Why do they feel like they've been hoodwinked? The answer is, because people are so accustomed to being conned by the media that it's the default fall back position. Years of being naive to media lies has created a generation of cynics that wants to show that it's not so easily fooled.

I think that - in combination with people just not having a good medical understanding of terminal cancer care (very unpredictable, people given 6 months to live can still be around 5 years later, or it can become 2 days to live over night) - is the source of this

It's not the simple pursuit of malice for entertainment. That is what trolling is. Though the DM has never quite grasped the definition... Anyone who questions the McCann case or indeed even just suggests that the Monarchy is outdated and needs to go is branded a "troll".

The only even slightly trolling comment there is the "refund" one.

There are two main problems with the wonder that is the Internet as far as I can see. Firstly, right now it's like the Wild West - in its infancy and there's hardly any law that applies directly to it, just laws that apply to other things and that have been squeezes and reshaped to cover the Internet, and... Secondly, it's given the privilege of freedom of speech to the very stupidest, unthinking, uneducated beasts who can afford a connection.
