In 2009-10 Rooney was at Ronaldo and Messi's level, Injury wrecked any chance of him taking his form into the World Cup.
People always seem to liken one person to another in whatever industry. Immediately applying pressure to them. Like when some 18 year old is linked with a big club they're often dubbed the next Messi.
