not sure how the weddings you're talking about work. with south asian weddings, it's usually in a huge venue with everyone sitting around circular tables and food being served, whilst people who knows/are related to the bride or groom go to the front to take photos with them and feed them cake (lol). then once everyone has eaten they gather to the front for the vows to be said

these weddings have 100-200 people, if not more. you can literally roll up and get a free three course meal, no one asks who you are as they just assume you know the bride/groom somehow. the venue is so full you end up sitting with strangers anyway. a large percentage of people leave straightaway after they eat and might leave an envelope of money for the newlyweds

so yeah, everytime I go to a wedding I just sit with my extended family/friends and eat and socialise with them. don't even bother going up to see who's getting married.
