I think Chris is old / intelligent enough to simply have a platonic appreciation of her, both aesthetically and as a person. You don't have to have a crush on / be flirting with someone to realise that they are attractive, and I personally think people (especially in Britain) are far too shy about showing that, most BECAUSE they're worried that people will then think that they "fancy that person" or want anything to happen with them.
For example, I have absolutely no sexual inclination for other males, at all. Not even a hint of bi-curiosity. But I can still appreciate the male physical form and when another male is "good looking". But wouldn't be able to say that to them as they (and others) would likely think I'm after some bumfun. Which is really sad, when you think about it. If everyone was more open about just saying to each other, without agenda, "I just think you're awesome", people in general would be much happier!
