I'm glad that the US is finally starting to wake up to the problem in Iraq, but it's not okay to forget about what's happening in Syria, we hate Assad so it's okay to support ISIS in Syria, but we are against them in Iraq? It's the same terrorist group.

I agree, that's the whole problem. If Isis can be headed off in Iraq than great but then they will just focus more attention elsewhere, mainly to Syria and like you say we can't start attacking them there because then we'd essentially be defending Assad. I don't think the West has a clue what to do now about Syria tbh, they might quietly be hoping that Assad's forces can actually defeat the Islamists there.
