Appalling. Will reserve my judgment until she's properly sentenced.

Mikaeel's cause of death was revealed last week

http://news.sky.com/story/1220865/mi...death-revealed

His mum wasn't allowed to attend his funeral but they let her out to see his body before it.

..I guess if she had been allowed at the funeral, it could have turned out to be something which didn't show respect to him at all...

The mother of a three-year-old boy whose supposed disappearance sparked a desperate search for him involving thousands of members of the public has admitted beating him to death.

Rosdeep Adekoya, 34, was originally charged with murder but pleaded guilty at the High Court in Edinburgh to the reduced charge of culpable homicide.

The single mother-of-five, an unemployed beauty therapist, told police on January 16 that her son Mikaeel had disappeared from the room he shared with his twin sister, in a flat in the Drylaw area of the city.

But her admission that she punched and beat him over four days is certain to lead to demands for an inquiry into the way social workers dealt with the family.

The twins were taken into foster care in Fife after Adekoya left all five children at home in July 2012 without proper supervision to go out in Edinburgh

The three older children were initially looked after by her estranged husband, while the twins were placed in emergency care. Weeks earlier, her mother Harjinder Kular had twice contacted social services after her daughter started going out and drinking to excess.

The twins were returned to Adekoya in August 2013, by which time she had moved to Edinburgh and was again looking after all five children.

The family was then monitored by Fife Council, until December 2013, just weeks before the fatal attack. It is understood that social workers never formally handed over the case to colleagues in Edinburgh.

Police found Mikaeel's body late on the second day of the search, hidden in woodland behind the house in Kirkcaldy, Fife, that the killer formerly shared with her sister.

Adekoya, who appeared under her married name although she is estranged from the father of her three eldest children, admitted repeatedly beating her son over four days, between January 12 and 15.

She then wrapped his body in a duvet cover, put it in a suitcase and drove it across the Forth Road Bridge to Kirkcaldy where she hid it in bushes.

In an attempt to cover up the crime, she then called 999 and reported her son missing, telling police he got out of bed, climbed on a stool and unlocked the front door of their home.

She dabbed her eyes repeatedly with tissues as the detail of her assault on her son was read to the court.

Her internet history revealed searches including, "I find it hard to love my son", "I love all of my children except one", "Why am I so aggressive with my son" and "Get rid of bruises".

The court heard that Mikaeel died on the night of Tuesday January 14 from injuries inflicted the previous Sunday.

His mother "lost her temper" after he was repeatedly sick following a trip to a Nando's restaurant at the city's Fountain Park.

She smacked him and struck him on the body and head with a clenched fist, the court heard.

When Mikaeel was sick for a third time, she dragged him to the shower by his arms and "beat him heavily" on his back as he lay over the bath.

Mr Prentice said: "It's likely that the internal damage was inflicted during this last beating."

Over the next few days Mikaeel's condition worsened and he was kept off nursery. He was assaulted again on the Monday after being sick and becoming "listless". The court was told Adekoya did not take him to a doctor because of the bruising.

Alex Prentice, prosecuting, told the court that the guilty plea was accepted by the Crown on the basis that she had “no intention to kill Mikaeel and that the assault perpetrated upon him, although severe, fell short if the wicked recklessness required for murder”.

He added that Mikaeel was quiet on Tuesday night and would have been in significant pain when he was put to bed.

Adekoya found his body on the floor when she went to wake the children in the morning. She took his sister to nursery, before driving his body to Fife and waited 24 hours to report him “missing”.

Officers who went to the flat reported that she initially appeared "very upset and distressed", but inconsistencies began to appear in her story.

During a police interview she broke down and told officers: "It was an accident and I panicked. I am going to go to the jail."

Asked where Mikaeel was, she replied: "In the woods behind my sister's house."

The final cause of death was found to be "blunt force abdominal trauma".

Mikaeel had more than 40 separate injuries to his body, including bruises to his back, chin and cheek, trauma to the brain, haemorrhage in the spinal cord and injuries to his arms.

Following her arrest in January, it emerged that despite having five children by two men, the self-confessed social butterfly continued to lead a partying lifestyle.

One of her friends was 25-year-old Mohammed Abdi, who was killed in a drug gang gun battle in Edinburgh last year.

She will be sentenced on August 25

I read this last night...horrific. Beating him was heinous enough but then leaving him to die in pain for 2days is just beyond words

That poor boy. I'll never understand how anybody could do that to one of their children. Cruel bitch! I hope she spends the rest of her life locked up.

Kizzy, have you ever read 'A Child Called 'It''... It's a true life story by Dave Pelzer. He was the 2nd of five boys, and his mother abused him terribly. She didn't abuse any of the others. It's a horrific read, but it goes some way to explain how this kind of abuse can happen to one child in a bigger family.

I read it before my son was born, and to be honest, I don't think I would have been able to finish it had it been after. It was very upsetting, but I do recommend it. There are a series of the books, telling his story from his childhood years of abuse to where he is now.

I have, I know it happens and I think it was amazing he survived to tell his tale... but it doesn't explain why these 'mothers' do these things.
