Default TiBB helped me.

I know this is so STUPID and PATHETIC and I'm going to sound like a right cringy fanny but i started when i was 14 and i was quite messed up at the time, i didn't know who i was, if i was gay or not - i wasn't comfortable in myself and had nobody in a similar situation to talk to.

Joining here and meeting a diverse range of people at the time, speaking with people going through the same thing as me, or had previously been through it was a great help and sort of helped the developing of the person I am today. It gave me a hard shell and helped me accept myself and be happy with who i am.

So thanks TiBB.

Has anything (like TiBB) unexpectedly helped anyone else out here?

It doesn't sounds stupid or pathetic, Conzors. TiBB was like a sanctuary of normality to me when something bad happened in my life. Sounds strange really, because it can be quite dysfunctional sometimes!

It inadvertently helped me be more comfortable with being myself and accepting you should always be true to yourself.

Shut up

But yeah I quite like TiBB as a sounding board. I always miss it when I go away for too long.

It's true I used to make up my personality online and now I am just being myself.

Yeah, the forum has helped my confidence in ways actually. It also helped pull me through a tough few months in 2012 and a tricky couple of years, as a distraction and having people to talk too/discuss Big Brother with.

I am more comfortable telling jokes with people now than I used to, and if anyone asks me who I find attractive or unattractive I actually can comfortably answer them now, I'm still not like my Mom and Dad yet though who blurt it out randomly lol.

That's great to be able to look back and see the positive influence this forum has had, much better than using it as a means to have your ego stroked.
I think it helped me too as a distraction during detox, whoever thought a big brother forum would have such an impact?

...your threads always give me lots of thoughts Conzors....I think with both of you, the thing also to realise is that where you both are now, is something you have both achieved by yourselves and because of the people you are..yeah, it can help to talk and it can help to 'distract' but it's you both realising what you need at the time and being able to take from it just that and to use it to move forward with those steps...it's all you, both of you..that 'help' if you feel it's been there is what you've selected and recognised yourselves as what has been something that has been essential to both of you..recognising' these things is kind of the 'first step' you know....

..anyway, I could go on forever but it's probably lucky I have work and I don't have the time...I think the forum can be good and it can also be bad like just about everything in life and I guess it's just knowing when to log on and when to log off, type thing...I've met some amazing people here, people I would never have met in 'real' life and been inspired so much by and learned so much from... and just seen so many people 'grow' from when I first knew them and take steps that they needed to but had found hard...just achieve so much, it just makes me so proud to see that...I can't name them all, there are too many but they know who they are anyway because I've probably said it all to them before as I can talk/I never seem to hush up sometimes....anyway yeah, being on TiBB and a part of TiBB and being honoured to be able to share a small part in people's lives has been amazing in so many ways...we'll all 'move on' and away at some point but there are a few people who I will always 'carry with me' in my heart....

I like that I can come here and help people with their problems and know that they will afford me with the same courtesy as and when I need it.

I think the media (especially the internet) has been great for the gay community, especially gay kids. until about 15 years ago, there were literally no gay people on tv, no mention of gay people at all except homophobic references. Things are definitely always getting better.

When i was a kid in the 80's and early 90's the only time you ever heard about gay people was in church being told gay people would go to hell, or painting gay people as child molesters and pedophiles in the news. even though the vast majority of victims of molestation are little girls, when a little boy is molested it was always painted as gay and much much worse than little girls being molested.

and the only gay people shown on tv back then were always men dressing up as women, or acting like goofy fools. and nothing could be more humiliating than a man acting like a woman, because of course women are inferior, so a man behaving like a woman was degrading.

homophobia and sexism are definitely connected. women are seen as inferior, therefore a man behaving anything like a woman is degrading and threatens men's feeling of superiority.

Our prime purpose in this life is to help others. And if you can't help them, at least don't hurt them.
