Default A society that rewards- Meatloaf Dee

theft and duplicitous behavior ..... You may well argue she's served her time or penance- but really do we want such scum on our TV as a role model?

A city council worker who stole more than £13,000 from her employer including cash belonging to "vulnerable" people has escaped an immediate prison sentence.

Recorder Angus Edis told mother-of-two Deirdre Kelly: "This was a mean-spirited and calculated deception on an employer with whom you had served long enough to build up a relationship of trust and betrayed that trust."

Some of the people who lost their money were the "most vulnerable" and what she did struck at the very fabric of the relationship between the local authority and the public, he added.

But in giving her an eight-month jail sentence suspended for 18 months and ordering her to do 220 hours' unpaid work, he took into account her previous good character and the fact that her children may have to be taken into care if she was sent to prison.

Kelly, aged 36, of James Turner Street, Winson Green, had previously pleaded guilty to one charge of theft.

Scott Coughtrie, prosecuting, told Birmingham Crown Court, that Kelly had been employed by the city council for seven years and worked as an administration assistant at an office in Hall Green.

He said between December 2004 and December 2005 Kelly stole just over £13,000 in cash and cheques from the safe while at the same time manipulating paperwork in a bid to cover her tracks.

Some of the money she took had been kept in envelopes and belonged to vulnerable people who had given it to their social workers to look after.

Matters came to light after an audit was carried out.

Kelly said that her partner had a crack cocaine habit and that she had helped to feed that habit as well as pay food bills and council tax.

Amir Riaz, defending, said Kelly had been put in a difficult financial position because her partner was taking money set aside for bills.

Mr Coughtrie said this included dipping her hand into the petty cash which had a float of at least £7,000.

When interviewed, Kelly admitted the dishonesty, saying she used the money to pay bills.

I just really hope she doesn't win,for me she has been fortunate to even reach the final but I would really hate to see her take this series.
She has been really awful and shown herself to be 2 faced and in no way genuine at all.

So, she's in there on her high horse about most things (especially fairness and good manners etc etc…) and she has been stealing money from vulnerable people…

Good choice of housemate Production team!

Well done and do please continue to find us these 'celebrity' dregs of society. Inside a few years all this will become normal - we will be inured to it and they will end up with a prog. featuring thieves, murderers and prostitutes. We're two thirds of the way there already. Wonderful...

I think voters are p^ssed off with the phone vote format these days, and therefore tend to have what they perceive as a laugh when choosing who to vote for. Thats why its anyones guess who will win tonight. Particularly when there isn't even prize money or reward at stake.

Taking it a stage further, look at some of the people that have been awarded Nobel prizes in recent years, beyond belief

Yep, recovering drug addicts, ex prostitutes, thieves - it was always a mistake to make entertainers "role models" - society should grow up and think again.

Look at what some of our other famous entertainers had been up to and only outed recently.

However, if someone commits a crime and then turns it around and does good - I'm sure Gary will find that they have a spot in heaven.

Have never liked the ugly moose since she abused my eyes and ears on Benefits Street but that is disgusting. She should have gone to prison

You do realise it costs tax payers an awful lot more to put people in prison than to make them do unpaid work or even be on benefits?

Dee has spent a lot of time in there telling us what she's like. I'm quite tired of hearing "that's not the kind of person I am"... and phrases like it. Thing is, she's demonstrated, quite clearly, on many occasions what kind of person she is. Most of us are quite clear about it. Putting aside her appalling manners and her awful treatment of Gary, one of the most telling things for me was when Claire King left and Dee almost threw herself on Claire's cigarettes.

I thought she was OK at first, but gradually went off her more and more.

And I didn't know about this conviction..would have loved it if BB had given Gary this information and got him to ask her about it.
