It would be the same. They were being signed by Syco regardless and
What Makes You Beautiful would still most likely have been their debut.

'Not winning' is certainly an advantage for some acts who're very particular about their...err... 'direction'. I don't think 1D are in that category.

Think the only real advantage of not winning is getting your music out quicker and people won't forget who you are, unlike most winners who've had to wait 9-12 months for some reason

Apart from sam who they knew would be forgotten about so capitalised on Mothers Day instead
