People tend to say people who rent privately have had it for years, but thats not the case at all. If I could find a private property with 8 bedrooms the housing benefit would pay for it in full aslong as it was below a certain amount. As it doesnt actually go by rooms...it goes by average rent prices

That said I disagree with the mansion tax as its not fair. People may have a low income but a property left to them in a will..and would have to fork out money they dont have. Just because people have a big house doesn't mean they are loaded. I would rather see an extra tax on luxuries such as ridiculously priced sports cars and stuff like that, which would ensure that only those with ****loads of money who waste it are hit, rather than your average person who got left property by their grandparents or something.

Or maybe forget extra taxes, and just ****ing do something about all these companies/millionaires avoiding tax that they should be paying to begin with...
It would be great if they sorted Out all the loopholes that allow those companies dodging the tax bill.
Yes, it does depend on a limit to be paid for how many bedrooms deemed needed. If you can find a cheaper house than the limit then the amount of bedrooms does not matter.
I think in some areas down South especially, people will find it difficult to find much of anything within the limits.

People have a perfect right to post their opinions and believe in them. You do it all the time, but you call out others. It's silly.

I dont 'hate' rich people at all. I do very much dislike those who try their damned hardest to avoid paying what they owe though. I know these threads always turn into 'well the rich pay 50%' or whatever, but thats ****ing right. I would much rather have an income of a million and pay 500k in tax, than have an income of 30k and pay much less. Its obvious that they should pay more...

I'm sorry but if people can afford to blow 200k on a sports car without even thinking about it, then they should be hit harder. I need to make it clear here I feel that I am talking about the obscenely rich, who get it for doing nothing really...the likes of footballers and such...NOT those who have worked their way up the career chain and now have a decent income

When there are people beiong kicked out of their homes because they cant find 20 quid a week extra rent from thin air for a bedroom that they do use but the government deems it unneeded..we have a big problem that many decide to just try to brush aside, favouring arguing against how much richer people pay instead or conetmplating more tax cuts for them. A woman in my street (I think I have mentioned before that I live in an area mostly populated by older people) needs a seperate room for her husband because she has a disabilty that I wont go into on here...apparently these people are protected from this. This is NOT the case. She recieved help for the first year of the bedrooom tax, and with little work/hassle too so credit to them there. Then the rules changed to say that anyone who has had a year of help cannot get anymore. Now she is in rent arrears and getting 'notice seeking possesion' threatening letters pretty much weekly. She reckons shes just gunna ride it out and hope it takes a while for the council to take her to court...as if the tories are gone at the next election she thinks the first thing labour do will be to get rid of this, and wipe arrears that have been accrued solely due to this. I think shes a bit too hopeful with that....

And its people like this woman who are made out to be the spongers of the world, while IDS laughs it up with his 50 quid breakfasts, all paid for by the taxpayer of course. It just sickens me

Often people hate rich people because to get rich they have been utter ***** and have no compassion or humility, they have just selfishly tried to get as much money as possible to say to people feck you I want you to look up to me because I have more than you and I am better than you

not all of course

I find they often drive Range Rovers

I don't hate rich people at all, my Parents have way more than they need and they would admit they do.
I do however hate injustice where people who are rich and then too have power ,they then use that power to bludgeon the poorest and weakest while building up the strongest and richest.
It is the injustice of that I dislike intensely.

The 'mansion tax' if it ever came in would also be linked to income too,it would not just be a flat across the board, with no other circumstances taken into consideration, full out tax on properties of over Ł2.000,000.

Rich people are needed to preserve and help create wealth for the UK, 'their country', and the vast majority of them do that too so they warrant protection too.
It isn't about hating anyone, it is hating a system that has been allowed to get progressively worse where those at the very top get nurtured while those at the very bottom get kicked, as they have been for all the time this coalition Govt has been in power, losing funds and entitlements left, right and centre.
That is what I intensely dislike, not people.

I know where my sympathies lie, no matter what wealth, health or strength I had in me,it would be to build up those who most need it and if that means in some way taking a bit more from those who have wealth to help with that, then so be it for me now.

Mind you, I don't know about hating the rich but there doesn't seem much compassion for those who are weakest and poorest being made daily, more poor and more weak by this rotten, heartless Govts policies.
It seems perfectly acceptable for those people at the very bottom to be made scapegoats and have to pay a big price for the Nations ills.

Completely agree Joey, I certainly don't hate the "rich" but I've seen the lower end of the scale, coming straight out of University with fairly useless degrees (in terms of employment) and a baby on the way, we really struggled for a couple of years. I grew up in a scenic, detached, "nice" household with an above average family income but when I was in my late teens my parents basically imploded (have mentioned it all in bits in various threads!) so were in no position to help, and I can say first hand that it is an awful situation to be in. I will never forget that no matter how high I climb.

For now we're doing fine, what I'd call an "average" sort of young family income, we certainly don't have to worry about money day to day but it's still a concern and things like owning our own home are still a few years off, but we definitely do have the ambition to be doing much better financially - to at least be doing well enough for money not to be a stress at all - and there's nothing wrong with that being the aim but I would absolutely never get complacent or ever assume that when people are struggling it's automatically their own fault. In fact, I have a sort of "dream" that, if we ever "get rich", I'd love to go into property and rent high standard family homes to young families at rock bottom rental prices and a promise that it's their home for as long as they want to rent it, and a clause in the contract that gives them the right to buy that home straight away if their circumstances change.

Greedy landlords in the private sector are one of my major pet peeves. If you have made it, if you are doing well, for God sake give SOME THING back. Help others to make it, too, instead of treading on them to climb higher.

I'd have admired her a bit more had she rather than spout on about a mansion tax hitting Grannies, which was a pathetic statement to make and a very ill informed one at that too.
Had she then too highlighted the Grandparents who have had to give up their 2 bedroomed homes, possessions, even gardens due to the bedroom tax to move to 1 bedroom homes, which then makes having Grandchildren stay over not possible now.

These celebrities who make such misleading and prejudiced comments as to really important issues should learn from the expression, ''it is better to be thought a fool and keep your mouth closed rather than open it and remove all doubt', as she did on this programme.

Stupid and ignorant woman.

No, let's not get silly I would never advocate violence against anyone because their views don't mirror my own.
My guess is she has been educated as to the reality of house prices in the capital now, unless she is actually living in a garage she paid 2million for
