So this evening, I went into Leeds with a few other people and we bought all kinds of different things to hand out to the homeless people who live on the streets of Leeds... And what an experience it was
I never thought that people could be so generous. We'd go up to someone sitting outside a shop and they'd tell us if there was something they didnt need (like one man said he had plenty of food and to give it to someone else who deserved it) and it just made me feel so happy. There was another homeless man who told us that someone asked him to for a cig, and he only had one left, so they shared it and someone overheard his kindness and gave him £200. The guy who gave him the £200 was actually there as well, lol... He was really drunk though. (he gave him the £200 another day, when he was sober... not this evening) And what made me feel the happiest, what actually brought a tear to my eye is what happened just before we left... There was a homeless guy in a wheelchair who had come up to us and had a look through all our bags of clothes and food... He didn't take a fancy to anything and then just as he was leaving, he saw a teenage black boy and said 'oh look, a f'''king n'gger' and I got mad and said, 'that's awful!' (i was that mad i just couldnt think of what to say)... anyway, the black boy said 'did he say that to me?' and i was like 'yeah, sorry, just ignore him' and he was like okay... Then he came back about 5 mins later with a bag of mcdonalds and gave him some food and told him he didn't have to be so rude. I actually nearly burst out crying in front of everyone. The homeless guy told him and his friends to f'''k off, but at the end of the day, it's the thought that counts. I just couldn't believe that a boy who had something so nasty said to them, turned it into something good. I've felt a lot happier tonight than I have the past few weeks... I'm literally broke now, but it was all so worth it... Sorry for the long ass rant, but I just thought I'd share it with you all, because it's nice to hear things like that. Have any of you ever had a similar experience? have you witnessed something so nice, it's made you tear up?

That's amazing of you Caitlin. A really noble thing to do (makes me a bit ashamed tbh) The black kid too. The homeless guy is lucky he didn't act like that with the wrong black man.

That's so kind, my cousin serves food to the homeless in a shelter on Christmas day and I really wanted to go with her this year and help but family stuff has got in the way so I can't but next year I would love to do it and help out.

I did this for several years in downtown Vancouver BC, working with different organizations, shelters, or just weekly going down to hand out food. I have experienced it all, and some of what you have described here today Caitlin. Good to see there are still people in the world with your heart. Thank you for sharing

and yes, those days were some of the best and most free of my life. I have fond, and tragic memories of the people I met on East Hastings (Canada's poorest Postal Code area)

..well done to you for this Caitlin....I recall Jesus doing something similar a few years ago/he helped in a soup kitchen on Christmas Day...and to you also PeppermintMokka, I'm full of admiration for you, that you spend time not only thinking of others but actively helping as well......
..and yeah, I have known acts of kindness and selflessness that have touched me very deeply, not things that I really want to disclose but there are many great people out there..I would say that most people I am lucky to know in real life are amazing..both adults and children and I think with all of the rubbish in the world and all of the bad stuff, it is important to remember that essentially people are kind of great...but really well done to you both..Caitlin and Peppermint...... |

Oh my Lord -- Caitlin's bit 'er charity work pales into insignificance.
