Pals claim twins are so stupid

THEY call themselves The Twincredibles - but others know Samantha and Amanda Marchant as The Stupid Twins.

A teenager who used to hang out with them remembers them being nicknamed Dumb and Dumber.

And Manchester nightclub manager Jonathan Sassen can see why.

Jonathan, who paid the 18-year-old girls £5 an hour to hand out leaflets, said: "I couldn't believe the things they would come out with.

"We were driving along a motorway when we came across an unlit stretch of road.

"One said there must have been a power cut but the other said there couldn't have been because the cars had still got their lights on.

"Then they both tried to convince me they had real volcanic lava in their lava lamp. Oh please!"

Jonathan added: "They got the job because they were just like they are in the Big Brother house - dead strange.

"They're not mad as such, just stupid. The things that they would come out with from day-to-day were just incredible. There isn't a brain cell between them. I have to say I love them to bits, because they're not bad - just stupid."

Student Jamie Tipping, 17, who knew the twins before they left Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffs, to study at Manchester Metropolitan University, recalled they were dubbed Dumb and Dumber.

He added: "They come across really dumb and squeaky on the TV but Sam was pretty bright in class, particularly when it came to maths and English.

"So I don't know if this is all an act and she is just trying to con everyone.

"Having said that, even then Sam was obsessed with pink. She used to wear pink lipstick, pink shoes, pink nail varnish..."

Jamie added: "I knew Sam fairly well because I used to be in with a group of lads who hanged around with her.

"She was basically a real bitch to everyone - including her mates.

"She could be really cruel because she knew she was good looking and her mates always tried to be like her and copy her. But when Sam saw them she would laugh in their face and say 'You'll never look like me'."

One person who won't be rubbishing the girls is their mother Janet, 46, who cheered her daughters into the house.

Divorcee Janet said: "All the lads will love my girls. All the blokes watching already do.

"But girls will love them too because they're so girlie and fun. They're really entertaining."

Asked if the twins had boyfriends, Janet said: "No comment about that. Watch this space, that's all I can say."

Janet, who has another daughter, Claire, 14, said: "I saw the girls calling "mum, mum" as they entered the house, but they could not see me. I am so proud of them. It is the first time I have ever been to London. It was so exciting and all because of the girls."

Dad Peter, 46, who lives near his daughters, said: "I am so proud of them. They are good girls and will do well."

Speculation reached fever-pitch in the all-girl Big Brother house yesterday as they wondered where the men where.

The favourite theory was that the blokes were being kept in a second secret house, which would soon merge with theirs.

But that will be blown apart tonight with the arrival of one lone man into the mix.

Looking at the bath in the living room, Laura said: "It's going to be normal for us but when the boys come, which is obvious, it will be, like, woohoo! I'll probably make a friend but will we then share the two houses?"

Emily added: "We are not going to bond as much as we should if people are hung up about the lack of men in the group."

Carole wondered: "Why would they have auditioned men if there weren't going to be any? There are going to be loads of men."

Meanwhile, all the girls had to share beds apart from Lesley, who turned in first and took the only single.

Emily bunked down with Chanelle while Nicky, Shabs and Charley shared the bed for three. The biggest one went to the twins, Laura, Tracey and Carole.

The first cracks started to appear yesterday morning, when Laura announced she was going to cook everyone a nice breakfast while most of the house was still asleep.

Lesley sniffed: "I think you have to decide how much you are going to wait on them because the girlies won't do anything."

Charley, cousin to Manchester United footballer Kieran Richardson, started weeping after the pressure of being on television hit home. She said: "I don't even know why I am upset. It's weird." Shabnam chipped in: "She is just knackered."
