Oscar Ratings Hits Seven-Year Low, Viewership Worst Since 2009

All the awards have been given out and it looks like the final numbers for the 87th Oscars are in. Running on ABC from 8:30-11:48 PM ET last night, the Neil Patrick Harris-hosted show garnered a 10.8 rating among adults 18-49 with 36.6 million viewers. That’s a 17% drop in the key demo from the final ratings for the 2014 Academy Awards and the worst the ceremony has done since 2008, when that show had a 10.68 rating. The total viewership for last night’s Oscars was down 18% from last year to hit a six-year low; the 2009 Oscars also had a total audience of 36.6 million.

I think it´s because in the US regarding TV, everything is about the ratings. Other factors are secondary.

films happen is disgusting trashy cinemas that serve over priced sweets and "food"

You sit in a lumpy velour chair amid the hoi polloii and suffer mind numbing adverts before some bollocks runs for 2 hours

acting is a highly overrated job, indeed anyone can act

then the "industry" have a doo where they slap each others back and wank each other off

They aren't saying the 30+ million viewers is bad (it isn't, it's brilliant), they're just noting that the viewers dropped a lot from the previous year.. Which it deserved to really, it was a pretty boring ceremony

NPH was a terrible host and they tried to recycle too much of what worked with Ellen last year, combined with old problems such as it being on for a ****ing age and it ultimately making for very dry viewing, it's no surprise that ratings were down.

The Oscars are due for an overhaul, the voting system is whacked and the voters are mostly out of touch with today's world and the show itself is overlong and boring.

They should make it into more of a film review of the year show, where they show clips and do things about films that don't get nominated. Like the BBC Sports Review show.

the loony liberals the feminazis and civil rights crowd ruined it yet again with their endless demands..........patricia arquette brilliant actress won rightly and spouted about American women getting more women and then $200 million dollar meryl streep started yelping yes ........pathetic. why cant we go 5 minutes without the endless demands of greedy western women. fck off. then we had the martin luther king thing, it was NOT a great movie it only had 1 nod so oprah and her crew decided to try and hog the show with their preaching.....guess what there are more stories usually far more complex multi faceted multi layered stories than just those obsessed with womens rights gay rights and black civil rights. granted everyone deserves equality, well that includes men too....it was a truly **** Oscars, uber liberal the ONLY real upside was birdman won.....a proper ambiguous quirky funny multi faceted and ORIGINAL movie and idea....thata rare thing in liberal Hollywood where scripts are paint by numbers box ticking suck up to the politically correct liberals....these days........guess what liberals life isn't a liberal prison, movie world doesn't have these constraints either.....ther is good bad ugly evil ...it makes me laugh how the liberal speeches preach about free speech freedom of expression and the movies as an art form that can show all kinds of expression etc except of course if it contradicts or questions the opinions of liberals , then they get labelled bigots....ps the after show talk was the actresses were offended enmasse that they were asked about their clothes? fck off
