Default Was Big Brother ever Water Cooler Television?

People usually define the years 2000-2006 of Big Brother to be water cooler television.

Was Big Brother really talked about everywhere and did the media care more about the show back in the day?

When did this all stop?

My personal view on this was that when I was still in school back in 2004-2006 everyone in school spoke about it.
I was in Year 9-11 during the golden era of the show, and I remember even teachers talking about Big Brother to some extent. I mean it wasn't every day. But I remember when it used to launch in late May, and I'd hear people getting excited as it would be half term, and Big Brother launching later on the night. I remember this vividly during 2005, and the build-up to the launch for BB6.

There was just a sense of buzz and hype surrounding the show at the time, which I don't feel now. Although some of it has been restored during CBB13 and CBB15, as I've heard people at work talking about it quiet a few times.

One thing I'll never forget is back in 2006, when BB7 aired. I was doing my GCSE's and everyone was talking about the series, and then two years later in 2008, I was doing my A-Levels when BB9 was on and you could just feel the hype was dead as nobody spoke about it as much back in 2008 compared to a few years earlier.

In my opinion, I think the hype died down during and after CBB5. I feel CBB5 gave the show a lot of hostility, and whilst a lot of people still spoke about CBB5 and BB8 as much as they did with BB6/BB7. It was after then the hype began to die down slowly and slowly. I think it was around 2009, during CBB6 when I feel that I heard nobody talk about it at all.

I think the media stopped caring about BB, after BB8.
