There's no doubt that a back to basics theme would have crossed the producers' minds by now but do you really think it would work now?
I don't know if it's just me personally or maybe because the shows so manipulated now it's what I'm used to but I tried watching BB3 (I think, it was with Jade Goody and Allison Hammond) and even though I get that it's MEANT to be a social experiment, I found it quite boring. I only got to like day 5 and I had to keep skipping the days before. Everything was just so dragged out and boring. Saying that, I LOVED BB6. (Maybe the edit was just more to the point or the cast were better) So do you think that viewers now deep down live for these twists and people would get bored without them? I just can't imagine it being a success if they removed all the weekly twists ![]() |

I agree. A lot of the early series are loved for nostalgic reasons, not how good they are. The cast aren't as good now though so we do need the twists, but they do make it more
exciting even if it does take away from the true meaning of the show |

I'd like to say yes but unfortunately it wouldn't.
BB has to try and keep up with sh!te like TOWIE, Jersey/Geordie Shore, Made in Chelsea. It's lead to sub-standard BB's. |

It probably all does just come down to the cast but back then they had thousands and thousands of people to pick from so they could create a more diverse cast. So I do understand why they go out scouting for people.

I can handle twists tbh, just not excessive nominations twists. One of my favourite aspects of BB is nominatons, seeing who goes for who etc. They can do as many silly twists as they want as long as they at least hold full nominations each week.

No it wouldn't work.
Although they do need to make it a bit simpler. The producers need to calm down and stop with the constant meddling as that pushes viewers away imo. They need to get that good middle ground, a bit like BB14 really. |

Jersey shore was good cause you got to see real physical fights on the show where as Big Brother you do the tiniest thing and you get thrown out. |

That's another thing they need change, stopping arguments for no reason. I understand if they have to interfere when it gets physical although the HMs have literally been stopped halfway through arguments and the producers/Big Brother has even said to them "This is Big Brother, could all housemates calm down"
![]() You'd think a bunch of college media students run this show at times. |

Back to basics implies... Good housemates, 24/7 live coverage and less meddling from the producers. All of this would help the show considerably |

If the current revolving door of twists policy isn't working (according to viewer figures) then why the hell not at least give it a try

It depends what you mean by Back to Basics.
If you mean the classic era of BB1-BB4, with chickens and bread-making. Then I think that would be tame by today's standards. TV has changed a lot in 15 years, as has entertainment. A series like that would not do well at all. I think reverting it back to BB5-BB7 style would help the show. The format hasn't changed much at all since the golden years of the show. They just need a production team, which actually know what they are doing, instead of the ******* who run the show now, some good housemates, good tasks, less twists (maybe one or two big ones throughout the series), and live-feed. BB13 was the closest C4 era series we've had on Channel 5. |

Jolly good

The show was better in those early years but a back-to-basics theme probably wouldn't work now because:
The audience expects to see drama and entertainment every night. The housemates know how the show works now too well, and they would be too reserved and hold their opinions back, and go under-the-radar, if they weren't encouraged by twists etc. The highlights show in the early years was only half an hour instead of an hour, and they need more material now for the programme. It's something I would be very interested in watching. Having to hand wash clothes. Not being allowed to sleep all day. Drama coming from aptitude in the tasks rather than the influential content. Arguing over how many bananas and tins of beans to get on their meagre budget. Not having an unlimited supply of cigarettes and alcohol (though i'm fine with them having sufficient TP, like come on). When they run out of food being supplied with that enriched gruel to ensure they get their required nutrients.
Something I would watch but a modern audience, no. After so many seasons and combinations of housemates I can't see a back to basics season bringing enough new stuff to the table to sustain ratings. I think it'd work though. Another thing I'd love to see would be a house divide like season 3(?). Housemates compete to be on the luxury side of the house. It's an interesting concept and one I'd like to see explored again. |
