Daniel Craig is 007, Sam Mendes back as director, screenplay by John Logan

It’s not exactly a speedboat on the Thames, but Thursday’s Bond 24 event is sure to kick up a raft of global excitement. That’s when the moniker for the latest 007 yarn will be unveiled at Pinewood Studios. The event will be streamed at 007.com, and we’ll carry the live video here at Deadline that morning. Also to be divulged is the full cast of actors who will alternately cozy up to or try to kill Daniel Craig’s superspy. Expected to return are Ralph Fiennes as M, Ben Whishaw as Q and Naomie Harris as Miss Moneypenny. I’ve also heard that Monica Bellucci may be in the mix.

Sam Mendes is directing his second Bond movie after 2012’s Skyfall was a megahit with $1.1B in box office, two Oscars and five nominations total. Longtime Bond writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade stepped in to do a rewrite of John Logan’s Bond 24 script this year and Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson are producing. EON Productions, MGM and Sony are presenting the Thursday event which falls just ahead of the beginning of principal photography on Monday.

Spectre will be the title of the 24th official James Bond film, its makers have announced.

Director Sam Mendes revealed the title at a launch event at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, where principal photography is due to begin on Monday.

Daniel Craig will play 007 for the fourth time in the film, to be released in the UK on 23 October 2015.

Other cast members were also announced at Thursday's event, which was beamed around the world.

They include Sherlock's Andrew Scott, as a Whitehall-based character called Denbigh, and Guardians of the Galaxy actor Dave Bautista, playing a henchman called Mr Hinx.

Italian actress Monica Bellucci and France's Lea Seydoux have been unveiled as the new 'Bond girls', named Lucia Sciarra and Madeleine Swann respectively.

As previously reported, double Oscar winner Christoph Waltz will have a role in the film, playing a character called Oberhauser.

The name of the character is the same as that of Bond's former ski instructor, though it has been rumoured Waltz will really be playing Bond's old nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld.

Spectre - Special Executive for Counter-intelligence, Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion - was the name of an international crime syndicate, whose 'Number One' was Blofeld himself.

The organisation featured in the Bond films of the 1960s and was part of a legal tussle with a rival film producer that was recently resolved after many years.

Thursday's event also saw the unveiling of the Aston Martin DB10 which Bond will be driving in his latest screen adventure.

The car manufacturer had had a long association with the James Bond series, starting with Goldfinger in 1964.

Returning cast members Ralph Fiennes (M), Naomie Harris (Moneypenny), Ben Whishaw (Q) and Rory Kinnear (Tanner) were also presented before the world's media, alongside Craig himself.

Craig, 46, first played Ian Fleming's legendary secret agent in 2006's Casino Royale, then in 2008's Quantum of Solace and 2012's Skyfall.

"We've got an amazing cast and, I think, a better script than we had last time," Craig told the BBC's Lizo Mzimba after the announcement.

But he refused to confirm Waltz would be playing Blofeld in the film, saying people would have to "wait and see".

He's totally playing Blofeld, there's no doubt about it, EON earned the rights to Blofeld and SPECTRE back last year, if they're using SPECTRE they're using Blofeld

Was already looking forward to this after how perfect Skyfall was (legit think it's the best Bond ever), throwing Christoph in the mix is just icing on the cake

Skyfall really was something special, it really stood out. Daniel Craig's run so far has been amazing, I feel sorry for Pierce who had crap scripts to work with.

Yeah, other than Goldeneye (which I'm not sure if I believe it's fantastic because of the game, or because it holds up on its own), he got some real duds and he's probably the perfect embodiment of Bond after Connery.

Jesper Christensen has dropped a hint that he could be returning for new James Bond movie Spectre.

Euroman (via Empire) is reporting that Christensen's Mr White will appear in the movie.


"I am looking forward to working with Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig," Christensen is quoted as saying. "It is a truly exciting script and a very capable team. So it'll be fun."

Mr White was last seen in Quantum of Solace escaping an interrogation in the tunnels underneath Siena as Bond (Craig) and M (Judi Dench) tried to find out more about the shadowy organisation Quantum. (Correction: He was last seen leaving the Quantum meeting at that big concert halfway through QoS)

Bond producers last year acquired the full Bond movie rights - granting them licence to use SPECTRE and characters such as iconic villain Ernst Stavro Blofeld in future movies - after a lengthy legal battle.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Christoph Waltz will play a character named Oberhauser, thought to be the film's villain.

The rest of the new cast includes Léa Seydoux (Blue Is the Warmest Colour) as Madeleine Swann, Monica Bellucci as Lucia Sciarra, Guardians of the Galaxy's David Bautista as Mr Hinx and Sherlock star Andrew Scott as Denbigh.
