cultural differences between usa and uk are too different?
are uk clueless about american culture? is it too foreign? are americans too clueless about british culture? too foreign? my answer is no. ps: i lived in asia, europe, americas. one thing i learned people are ain't so different. american culture is the most popular culture. british culture is just as popular around the world. why all the misunderstandings and excuses for conflicts? bb should focus on celebrating cultural differences, create fun cultural tasks, instead of using it for conflict and arguments. The way they implemented this CBB right from the start I anticipated some great fun and banter as both sides wound up each other based on nationality and cultural differences. So far I have seen little of this done by either side for fun.
Possibly a fear of the ever increasing political correctness or may be just down to lack of humour by those chosen to participate. When the USA won the task and where crowing about it I was looking at the brits and thinking why don't one of you go and lower and hide there Flag. When Austin was attempting to have a bit of fun with Chloe RE her posh accent (and my impression was this was his intention as opposed to being nasty) She made an OTT meal of it. They have to entertain themselves (as well as us) and surely some fun and banter should play a part but it appears to be missing.? |

there are many ways to make this show fun, instead making it all about hate for each other. |

I think there are definitely cultural differences. It doesn't really have anything to do with how popular or known a culture is, ie. you can understand a culture but still be from a background that is different to it. You're right that people are all essentially the same but behaviours and expressions etc will vary from one culture to the next. It's not an excuse as to why one person won't get along with someone else but it does mean that they may have to try harder to connect with that person. In my opinion, that in itself doesn't make someone a bad person, as long as they try.
I think a good example is when Farrah said that she didn't understand why Natasha sometimes says "love" when referring to someone in a negative way. It's not really that Farrah doesn't understand it, of course she does, it's more that she isn't used to it within her own culture, and rather than accept it for what it is, which is something that is simply part of Natasha's everyday vernacular because of where she grew up, she used it as something to attack her with during an argument. I find this very telling. It was also interesting that for the rest of the argument, Natasha didn't say "love". That might sound like a silly point to make because of course she doesn't say it all the time, but she could have said it again as a subtle way of asserting herself and antagonising Farrah further, but I think she didn't do this in order to keep the argument on track and resolve it. As much as I think Natasha does like to argue, I think she still tries to get to a resolution, this in contrast to Farrah who seems to use tactics to distract from the point of an argument in order to avoid a resolution. I'm getting off point a bit haha... Basically my point is to say that it's not really important HOW different the USA is to the UK, it's just that if there ARE differences, however small, they will act as a barrier for some people. And when you hear people say things like "we're so different because of our cultures" etc, it's not a bad thing that they're saying that. It's actually a good thing that they recognise their differences because you have to do that first in order to deal with them and find a common ground. It's when people recognise their differences but don't make any attempt at resolving them, or when they fail to recognise their differences at all that I think there's a problem.

I guess I have lived in more countries, including America, than anyone else on here and I can assure you that the difference is a lot deeper seated than what we speak of in open forum. America is a relatively young country and like anyone who acquires massive wealth, they get complacent.
The USA is still building its identity on the worlds stage and at times act like bullies because they can. They have loads of issues of their own to deal with like racism, gun laws, crime, drugs, poverty and the worst of the lot, the fools in their society that suffer from self awareness syndrome. These people confuse wealth and privilege with power and attitude and the age old adage of I am never wrong runs deep in the heart of the privileged wealthy. People like Jenna and Farrah seem to think that money equates to respect, but in the UK we all know that respect is earned, not bought and talking down or arguing with anyone in a position of power is doomed to failure. If say Prince William was in there, all the Brits would pander to him as a matter of respect but the septics would try to find a way to be annoying and controversial because they feel that its in their DNA to stand up and be counted. The only trouble is how they decipher standing up. They call it balls, we call it rude. Most septics will argue that money and power are not that relevant, its all about who you are, but in reality, without money and power, in the states, you are nothing. The problem in that house is that the Yanks are wealthy and arrogant and the Brits are comfortable and subservient. Its a recipe for disaster and prostitutes or sex working girls like Jenna are basically like benefit chasers that have won the lottery, they might be wealthy, but they have no class and most of the wealthy people in the USA are devoid of class. Farrah is a prime example. She feels that the world owes her something and she is so self aware that criticism hurts and she cant handle it. Great for the TV but in real life, bloody annoying to have to deal with. I proved my point once when I was on the tour circuit in Palm Springs. I was invited to 2 different parties on the same weekend. I was knackered and wanted a quiet night so I made the wife promise that when we were asked what we did for a living, I was just a basic electrician and my wife a housewife over there on holiday. We were shunned by most and came home early. The sunday following we told the truth and as a professional golfer, all the rich septics couldn't get enough of us and I was glad to get away. In the states, there is a class destination that rules everyday life, even in the house. Jenna does not hate Natasha for what she is, she hates her because she is poorer and prettier than her and not afraid to speak her mind. Yanks hate to come off second best in anything, ergo this is why they are perceived as loud, brash and obnoxious, they are not really like that, they are just putting on an act to feel important and powerful. |

Go on Reddit.com and come back in a year, I lost a lot of respect for them on that site, 3 years of it & I prefer Europeans,
They always gotta reason to 'correct' the English language when they dont even speak it in the first place. Trust me. FYI Reddit is a biig website in the US.

Please don't equate America with the trash that's in the CBB house. You do realize these people are irrelevant in the US, right? This is why they're on the show. There are never actual celebrities on CBB. They can't afford them. |
