Default Panic attacks

I've been having an awful lot of panic attacks over the last few days. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice with how to deal with them? It would be really apperciated.

Laura, panic attacks are serious things and I really think you should talk to someone with some knowledge on the subject.
My gran would have panic attacks in carparks but she hasn't had one in years.

Laura you may think things aren't triggering them, but stress in general life can be as big enough trigger as any. You may need to see someone about it (it's nothing to worry out!) and they may give you coping mechanisms

If you don't want to, do your parents know?
Anyway, if you feel yourself having one try taking deep, calm breaths and keep trying to remind yourself where you are etc. Trying to keep in touch with reality can postpone a panic attack - but the best thing to do is let someone know.

That is an awful story I hope she was okay.
I shaved my upper lip when I was 16 paronoid about 'moustache hair' and I started a. bleeding and b. had a massive rash for a week.
Veet is a good choice

My friend had a panic attack at school when she was by herself and they had to call an ambulance and stuff when they found her cos she hadn't gotten help. She had to have a oxygen mask and stuff and kept telling them which room my lesson was in so they would come and get me - cos she knew I'd slap her out of it (literally, I'm a nice friend really... would've been for her own good).

But then she had a second panic attack cos the paramedics couldn't find me.

Laura my partner Chris suffers with panic atticks and he went to the doctors and the doctor says the best way to deal with panic atticks is to get a paper bag and breath very slowly into the bag until it has eased down and thats what he does and it does really calm it I hope that helps you out and good luck

Laura, I have suffered with panick attacks for many many years. The only solution, if you have them often, is to seek medical help.

There are various ways of coping and they will be able to assess the situation and find a solution.

They arent nice, I mainly have them when I am in a busy shopping area and I feel myself becomeing very giddy and unable to cope.... and I have had to leave my shopping and get the hell out.

Its a flight or fight machanism but I guess that I have had to cope with them so often and for so long that I have gained a way of coping on my own

Are you having them a lot?
Have you had them before?
What are your symptoms?

Sorry for the questions but there are differing symptoms which are all indicators of panic attacks and some people consider shortness of breath a classic sign whereas others may have stranger symptoms and not realise they are suffering. You may be helping someone else out here too!

I used to suffer terribly with attacks when I was in the depths of depression. I found out how to get rid of the trigger and once I did that the attacks disappeared remarkably quickly, although the other day I still had that feeling start up within me. It's almost for me like a feeling of fear spreading over me. I get deja vous and I would panic. This was always tied up with over tiredness. The more you panic about panic the worse it gets but it is easily treatible like others have said.

Look at all the stresses in your life, write them down and talk to someone you trust or talk to your GP as soon as you can. Don't be afraid to do this as there are thousands upon thousands of people right now suffering with painic attacks across the country.

If yours have come on suddenly then they are likely to go suddenly. If you feel one coming on, try the paper bag trick, it can help some people, if not then I used to keep telling myself "I will get through this, it will go away". And it AWLAYS did. Sadly talking from experience I do understand and so do many others.

Thanks you guys for your support. I hope you and those you know who survive with panic attacks are all doing alright!

At the moment my attacks seem to be minor as they don't last very long although they are quite frequent. I just remind myself to breathe. They only usually happen when I'm extremley stressed(my last ones before this happened when I had to present stuff to my class) so I am hoping they go soon.

*hug* Laura, I've had panic attacks before in stressful situations, a lot of the time I just end up crying and shaking. I had a couple before I got ill recently due to worrying over my partner and fearing the worst would happen, but I got over them. I've also had a panic attack in the street before, luckily I bumped into somebody I knew and they helped me.

I put a lot of it down to stress and the fact that I worry easily about things, especially when it comes to my partner and child cos I have such a strong bond with them and go to pieces if anything happens or they're the slightest bit ill cos I feel unable to cope and fear losing them.

Princess, I've suffered from panic attacks since the end of the 80's. I've had lots of advice over the years about them. The 'paper bag' breathing is really good but can be a bit embarrassing if you have to do it in public! Of late, I've found Bach's Rescue Remedy a good herbal remedy - its available at all chemists - and helps me to keep 'calm'.

The Internet has loads of advice and there are always self-help books.

Hope this helps..........

Unfortunately I can’t help you from a first-hand point of view, as I’ve never suffered from panic attacks myself. However, I think that’s because I can deal with stress quite well – I get stressed a lot on a daily basis, but you’ve just got to keep focused and not get too caught up in what it is that’s stressing you out. If you do actually have a panic attack, then obviously the best advice would be to consider what’s been given – e.g. the paper bag, breathing deeply and keeping a clear head.

Often what helps me though, generally speaking, is to just focus on the present and future entirely – it keeps me going a lot of the time. A positive attitude towards whatever you do can lift an enormous weight off your chest as well; you’d be surprised. Above all though, talking to someone and getting all of your worries out in the open makes things suddenly seem a lot easier.

I had a coupleof panic attacks. 1 waswhen i was on hliday with my friend and i was being sick feltreally ill and i had o go everywhere with them, andthere was no toilet, so i just panicked. and 1 waswhen i was mountain biking on the army trip. i couldnt do it and couldnt breathe so i panicked.

I wasnt very good with dealing with them myself. if people told me to calm down and breathe deeply. it sorted it.

Sorry to hear about this Laura!! *HUGS*

I suffer from these bloomin' things often. They seem to come out of nowhere, and I am worried how I will cope at uni if I have one whilst in lectures.........

I find that the 'anchoring' technique is very good.

See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anchoring_%28NLP%29
