Black Christmas
Rating - 5.5/10 I didn't really enjoy this film to be honest, the phone calls were creepy and that but I wasn't interested in it. I found the characters rubbish as well. I wish we knew what the killer looked like, the cat noises the killer made was another creepy thing which is why the film isn't that low. 1.The Descent - 10/10 2.Scream(1996) - 9/10 3.Scream 2 - 9/10 4.Urban Legend - 9/10 5.Friday The 13th - 8/10 6.Scream 3 - 7/10 7.Black Christmas - 5.5/10 8.I Know What You Did Last Summer - 5/10 9.House Of Wax - 3/10

Black Christmas
I think Black Christmas is an interesting film from a historic perspective as it's one of the first films of it's kind and, like Halloween, there's a lot of horror film tropes that this film helped create. Unfortunately though I don't think it's aged too well entertainment wise, it's not a film I'd watch again. I did like it though, I liked the ambiguity of it all and how they emphasized tension above gore. I liked how we rarely got a look at the killer either, it was an effective way to make what would be a typical maniac into something much more eerie. Although it's aged quite badly I do respect the film and the impact it had on the horror genre. 6/10 Scores Black Christmas 6/10 The Descent 10/10 Scream 3 4/10 Urban Legend 6/10 I Know What You Did Last Summer - 2/10 Scream 2 - 8/10 House of Wax - 5/10 Friday the 13th - 3/10 Scream - 9/10 Last edited by Tom4784; 10-10-2015 at 06:24 PM. |

Black Christmas:
5/10 I have to be honest, Black Christmas never really drew me in. It has a really cool premise and some great moments of really creepy horror, but as a whole I found the movie quite dull and hard to really get in to. The weird calls were used to good effect (and I really liked the inclusion of the "calls coming from inside the house" urban legend) and there is an increasingly-pervasive unsettling atmosphere building throughout the movie. I'm torn about the killer remaining a mystery. On one hand, it maintains his creep factor. On the other, never really learning about him felt a tad anticlimactic. In a nutshell, Black Christmas has moments that really work, but the whole film just didn't ever really entrall me I'm afraid. (Oh, and I wanted to know what happened to the cat! ). Rankings: 1. Urban Legend (9/10) 2. Scream 2 (9/10) 3. Scream (8/10) 4. The Descent (8/10) 5. Scream 3 (7/10) 6. Friday the 13th (7/10) 7. House of Wax (6.5/10) 8. I Know What You Did Last Summer (5/10) 9. Black Christmas (5/10) Last edited by Lostie!; 11-10-2015 at 10:34 PM. |

Black Christmas is something I've watched most years around Christmas time, rather than Halloween. I love the fact it involves Christmas (a jolly holiday) but also horror. It's not a perfect movie but it is bloody creepy, especially on a first viewing. I think it's an interesting film and deserving of a 6.5/10

Black Christmas (1974)
8/10 A brilliant Christmas slasher film. A classic. Despite the hate it gets on here Love the setting and I found the calls and the atmosphere of the film to be quite creepy and unsettling. The death scenes were really scary to watch too, mainly because of the noises the killer makes and how you never see his face fully. The chase scene at the end with the killer and Jess was good, even though it wasn't a long chase scene. And the ending with a phone ringing was a nice touch. It hasn't really aged well and looks quite old fashioned, but for a film made in 1974, it still holds strong imo. And Barb's character Last edited by Jason.; 10-10-2015 at 10:06 PM. |

Scream 4 is a good sequel imo. Much better than Scream 3. Although I find it to be a bit remakey of the original Scream in some scenes, which I won't spoil. But it's a brilliant entry to the franchise and it has Jill and Kirby

Night Nine - Black Christmas
Maybe old horror films just aren't for me? Personally I didn't really like this film and found the plot weak and boring. It does have some redeeming qualities but on the whole I wouldn't watch it again. I think the films opening is too weak for my liking and I like an opening what I can connect with instantly as it makes you interested for the rest of the film. The call was pretty creepy I suppose made to the sisters but I just found the deep breathing really aggravating and I found the call to sound a bit immature saying 'SUCK MY DICK' it sounded like a thirteen year old boy had produced the script. The film did get better with Clare's death and her rocking in the chair was disturbing. I did like some of the aftermath of Clare's death. We were allowed to make connections with the characters and get to grasps with them. Mrs Mac was a great character for her comedic value she brought to the film and Barbs scene over dinner where she broke down and blamed herself for Clare's disappearance really made me sympathise with her character and I think it was a nice way to let us in on her backstory. However, I do think that the aftermath after a while does get a little tedious because even though we do have Mrs Mac's death there wasn't really a build up to her death and afterwards it went straight back to the search of Clare. The calls however got creepier and actually rather frightening with the different voices down the phone and I liked the tension it built throughout. Barbs death was my favourite scene in the film. The atmosphere was so unsettling and chilling with the Carol singers singing over her death as she was stabbed in the chest. I think this scene will be the one which will stick in my head. Onto the ending of the film. I personally found it rather awful. The call coming from inside the house being brought into the film made it really dramatic and I think the producers could've done a lot with that route but the final chase scene with Jess was really dull. Although I do like ambiguous endings which allow a sequel to prevail I do feel we weren't really told enough at the end of the film. I did appreciate the fact they didn't go down the obvious path of Peter being the killer but I think not telling us who the killer was was just perhaps a sign of poor writing. Oh and also the police officers not searching the full house e.g. the attic for Clare is a major plot hole and so unbelievable Overall - 4/10 Yeah I won't be rushing back to watch this anytime soon... Scores: The Descent - 10/10 Scream - 10/10 Urban Legend - 9/10 Scream 2 - 9/10 House Of Wax - 8/10 Scream 3 - 6/10 I Know What You Did Last Summer - 6/10 Black Christmas - 4/10 Friday the 13th - 2/10 Last edited by Daniel-X; 11-10-2015 at 11:34 AM. |

I heard that both were good but imo they're both crap, it follows is kinda interesting in a way but overall it's a crappy film, the babadook once again is kinda interesting but the actors/actresses ruin it imo, i found the characters SO annoying and it was just dull

I'm excited for some supernatural horrors though. I prefer slashers generally but I think that it will be nice seeing some supernatural horrors for a change now.
I am most excited though for Prom Night though because I've never seen the original and it looks great |

I know a lot of people who don't like both films. It just depends on your taste in horror. Don't expect something gory, all about jumpscares (IF has some moments), **** like that. It's more story driven.

Sunday 4th October – Scream 2 (1997)
8/10 One of my fav Scream films, loved it! Killer reveal was great. Monday 5th October – I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) 7/10 A strong horror film with a lot of suspense and jumpy scenes. All though I lost interest in parts. Tuesday 6th October – Urban Legend (1998) 9/10 Loved it, great horror film. Love the whole Urban Legend killings, great setting, very dark and mysterious. Wednesday 7th October – Scream 3 (2000) 6/10 Decent but not the best. Some suspenseful scenes, I like the hollywood set as the setting. Little slow in parts. Thursday 8th October – The Descent (2005) 9/10. One of my favourite horror films, absolutely brilliant. Has you on the edge of your seat. Last edited by Will.; 11-10-2015 at 11:00 AM. |
