America's Next Top Model has been axed
Quote:
"America's Next Top Model" is walking off the runway after its current cycle ends.
The CW announced Wednesday that its longest-running series will end on Dec. 4. The show, fronted and executive produced by Tyra Banks, premiered in 2003 on UPN and has aired 22 separate cycles. It was also the first show to air on The CW after UPN and The WB merged.
"'America's Next Top Model' was a successful franchise for two networks, first at UPN and then The CW, and it became not just a ratings hit, but a global pop culture phenomenon," CW president Mark Pedowitz says in a statement. "I want to thank Tyra and [exe producer Ken Mok] for all their years of success in establishing a show that was not just popular in the U.S., but all across the world."
"Top Model" ending means that The CW will have just one show -- "Supernatural" -- remaining from the WB/UPN days.
The network is considering airing a retrospective "Top Model" special sometime in 2016, but plans aren't firm yet.
"Top Model" joins these shows that are ending or have been canceled in 2015-16.
