Default 7/7 victim of hate crimes

http://www.walesonline.co.uk/news/wa...ility-10267581

why should this man with no legs be abused by this woman?

why should she get away with it?

disability hate crime is up a whopping 33% in wales in the last year, why? what the hell is going on

I don't think it's real hate, I think it's ignorance and stupidity. Any one of us could become disabled tomorrow. So I don't understand how there is not more inclusiveness, understanding and help for people who are disabled. There but the for Grace of God goes any one of us.

Sexist as well, if the woman was sat in the car and her husband was emptying the rubbish(as I would do) would she have had the same abuse?
Nosey interfering busybody without a life of her own so she has to have a go at anyone by the sound of it.
Not sure about it being a hate crime, I reckon she didn't know he was disabled to start with and then couldn't stop her gob from spouting.

Those were my thoughts too but even then, she had no right to make judgement on a stranger.
Not backing down and apologising profusely is appalling.

It's a hate crime, and due to the drain that all welfare claimants are I foresee it getting worse not better.

I'm not sure everyone sees genuinely disabled people as a drain. While there will always be rude people willing to spit hate at someone else for being different from them, I'm sure most people want to see disabled people being at least treated fairly in society.

you rarely hear of bigots like this getting arrested but imho this is the worst form of bigotry attacking vulnerable disabled people ....people like this need to be made an example of then arrested and locked away for a while

Yes attacking physically disabled people is frowned upon, if you aren't obviously incapacitated it's usual to be accused of not being genuine, this is very frustrating.

Lots of people don't seem to care until it affects them. The selfish attitudes are so so damaging to society, not only that but to ourselves too. More disabled people on mainstream TV shows would help I think.

When my old man was in his wheelchair at the end and I wheeled him around I found people to be very respectful and helpful

Yes. I know it probably sounds quite pc to a lot of people, but I think that a few disabled people appearing on TV shows just like any other non-disabled person could really help, not just taking the roles of disabled characters but people acting as news anchors, being on chat shows like Celebrity Juice/HIGNFY.. things like that.

i think its a very difficult area to progress in terms of personal interactions. There are many reasons for it, but it stems from the sheer range of disabilities and their range of severity. On top of that is the wish of the majority of disabled people not to appear disabled or for it to appear that they have any dependence on others for day to day life.

We have so many disabled friendly facilities now compared to what we had previously and this actually decreases general awareness of the issue rather than increase it.

I think the simple solution is that people shouldn't jump to conclusions about anyone that they have just met and take the time to observe and learn.

Raymond Burr played Ironside, wheelchair bound lawyer investigator in series of same name.
