Has anyone had a video interview?

Could you give me some pointers and/or advice please?

Seriously though is this a new thing like on Skype? I would treat it like a normal interview, wear professional clothes etc, write down some questions that you want to ask them, good thing is you can actually have this in front of you without them seeing, research the company, and remember to visualise the interviewer in their Pjs

If it's a bloke interviewer then Skype from your bedroom with your dressing gown falling off one shoulder.

Interviews now are usually competency based Kizzy and they will ask you to describe a situation when you have had to deal with a certain situation such as an irate person and how you effectively managed the situation. They may also ask about times when you have had to work as a team player etc...

Be as natural as you can be, don't forget to establish eye contact, and don't forget to smile.

As already said, it would be better for you to create your own 'prompt board' with all your bullet points on it in large clear print, and get someone to hold it up at the back of the pc so it can't be seen. Position it where you can glance at it without it being obvious to the interviewer that that is where you are focusing when you do need to refer to it. Think of a TV News Reader.

A friend of mine had an interview earlier this year and he was asked to tell a joke. Never heard of that before... but just in case, it's best to be ready. His joke was "What's the difference between a hippo and a zippo? One's really heavy and the other is a little lighter".

Yeah, there's a new breed of interview questions to make people think on their feet and the joke is another.

Another favourite at the moment is would you rather be feared or liked....

Good answer: ‘Well I certainly wouldn’t want to be feared. Personally I think fear is a terrible motivator, and could lead to some uncomfortable situations. Everyone wants to be liked, but it isn’t always possible. Sometimes you have to do unpopular things to get the job done. I’d much sooner be respected, but have my co-workers understand that I always do my best for the team as a whole.’

Bad answer: ‘I want people to be afraid of how much they like me.’
