In spring/summer it was sometimes even less than that as we used the bath to keep tadpooles in. When that was the case it was a stand up wash all over at the kitchen sink. Bring back memories Kirk?
Does it half Jenny. Our tin bath was hung on a nail in the covered shelter between coalhouse and outside loo, and it was brought in on 'bathdays' - No,the rest of you - I said 'Bathdays' NOT 'Birthdays' - and put on the lino in front of the coal fire. It was 'filled' to a depth of about 6" from a succession of pans and kettles which were boiled on two cast iron 'paddles' which swung over the fire.

I'm not ashamed to admit either, that a lot of the time our 'bath' soap was a block of Fairy Household Green soap. (Ugh! though )

Happy Days Jenny - piss pot poor but safe and happy.
