When you are older but look younger, it can be a problem

I remember when my sister was 15 years old, she could quite easily get served in a pub or get looked upon as someone much older. Many thought 18, 19 or even 20.

That is great

But, when it is the opposite, it can be a drag, can't it


1) When it happens to you, do you really hate it?

2) Do you expect people to say that you look young & just expect that?

3) Do you get treated differently by most people?

4) Is it a good thing? Looking younger can have it's advantages, name some?

I would have been delighted to have been asked for ID when i was 20 and wanted to buy fags or get served in a pub..............

Basic answer; yes. Apparently I look young for 18 and I constantly need to show ID. In addition, provisional driving licenses now cost £45, and many places no longer accept CitizenCards(WHY?!) which were a whole lot cheaper.

So now I have to lug my passport around with me when I go out cos I do get ID'd, and it's embarrassing whipping out that beast, haha.

I don't mind looking young, I just wish there were cheaper ID alternatives.

I look older so I haven't this problem. People always think I'm 20. Last week, for my bus card, they gave me the wrong prize to pay, it was the adult one. Therefore I said "sorry but I'm 17, I'm not 18 or more then I pay the student prize for the bus", then the girl said "oops sorry I thought you were 26".
That was fun, situations like that always happened to me. When I was 16 I went in nightclub and nobody asked my ID. Even now, I'm 17 and I'm clubbing every weekend, and they ask nothing. Same thing for the cigarets and the alcohol.

I am surprised about the price of Provisional Licenses?

I know that I.D cards cost about £25 or something close? But for many, it is a nuisance and many don't buy I.D cards either.

I never had one when I was 18 years old, but I never frequented pubs. In fact, I never had an alcoholic drink until I was 22 years old & that is saying something I'll tell you in todays society.

But, I liked to pop into the odd fruit machine arcades and you need to be 18 years old in many in London, so I got chucked out a few times, because I had no I.D.

I do look young for my age now, but as I am way past 18 I know I will get served a drink

Yeah i look young for my age but im kinda small too so that doesnt help. When i go out i have to sjow my passport around with me as well i dont mind but i have to have it with me at all times

my big cousin is 28 but looks like 15 i swear to god and my other cousin is 18, and he went to the shop once, and my mum told him to bring the kids back a mixup, so he did n he brung her back one cos he thought she was a kid n omg it was so funny n i dunt even know why am telling this i just remembered it there soyeah

I got asked for ID a lot when I was 18 or 19 cos I looked younger than that, people thought I was around 15 or 16 at the time. The last time I got asked for ID was a couple of years ago when I'd walked into the local Spar wearing jeans and a hoodie, and bought some cans of lager. They'd had problems with 14-year-olds buying alcohol and were checking everyone's ID, thankfully one of the staff knew I was over 18 and persuaded the people to serve me. It doesn't happen now - I could pass for around 22 and people usually take me more seriously.

I know what you mean Nicola.

A lot of people have this trouble in life, when a whole family goes out for a drink. Perhaps it's a birthday celebration or something and one of the family is 19 years of age, but simply looks like 15 or 16 and they order a round of drinks and the bar girl says, "I'm sorry, but we need to see some I.D first, before we serve you?", but sadly, No I.D card or anything proving age.

Many pubs that are not family pubs, sometimes don't wish to have you on their premisis.

I can get away with child cinema tickets now (15 and over is adult, and I'm 16). Last year I went to see a 12 film with my little sister,and the woman was like.. ID please, there's no way your over 12 and I was like I'm 14, and then she was like yea right so I showed the ID and her face just went bright red. Silly cow, she didn't even apologise!

When I was 16 I got into a film for a junior showing, the woman actually believed I was 12! Saved a few quid doing that until they all cottoned on to the fact that I was apparently a 12 year old seeing 15 movies, so I had to admit I was actually 16.

Edit: Oh but weird, at 16 I could also look 18 cos I got into a few clubs. Strraange.

I hate it, I don't drive.. so ID is a nightmare in pubs and clubs. I could stand there for hours feeling like a wally for being 28 yet, still, getting asked for ID.. I hate it with a passion. I don't have a passport, never been abroad. It knocks my confidence.. I love to drink... but hate going into shops buying drink as they always ask how old I am
People have told me to make the most of it... after the 50th time, you'd rather not "make the most of it"

Its not something I have had a problem with myself but it must be frustrating. My daughters both look a little older than they are so I dont think it will be a problem to them either.
