SINGER Amy Winehouse was feared to be on the brink of a breakdown last night after collapsing with “severe exhaustion”.

Amy, 23, was rushed to a top London hospital where medics spent hours running tests on her.

And our pictures of the hard-drinking star show why her friends are so worried about her health.

They demonstrate how the curvy singer has become a gaunt shadow of her former self in just three years.

A close friend said: “Amy is in a bad, bad way – and she knows it. This morning things looked dicey and it was A & E time, not just a GP thing.

“A lot of us are really worried that her mind and body simply can’t take the abuse. There’s no point being the most talented person in the graveyard.”

Amy had been due to give a string of concerts and perform at the MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas next month.

But doctors are understood to have ordered her to tear up her diary and concentrate on beating her demons.

A spokesman for the singer said: “Amy was admitted to University College London Hospital, suffering from severe exhaustion. She was discharged in the afternoon and has been advised to take complete rest.

“Scheduled performances in Norway and Denmark this week have been cancelled.”

The Rehab singer, who married Blake Fielder-Civil, 24, earlier this year, has battled drink and eating disorders.

Earlier this year, she appeared drunk on TV’s Charlotte Church Show. She also cancelled two concerts due to exhaustion.

She said: “I have had problems with booze. When I get drunk, I’m a terrible drunk.”

LIMP Amy Winehouse was dragged through an A&E unit’s double doors before collapsing from a huge drug overdose yesterday.

The semi-conscious singer was hauled in by husband Blake Fielder-Civil and a girl pal.

When she reached the reception desk, her legs buckled and she fell to the floor with a shriek.

The party-loving star’s trademark beehive hair hung lank around her shoulders as staff at London’s University College Hospital rushed her for emergency treatment.

Tattooed Amy, whose stick-thin frame and sallow complexion has worried friends and fans alike, was given an adrenaline shot in the early hours drama. And she had her stomach pumped.

Last night her record company Island claimed she was admitted suffering from “severe exhaustion”.

But The Sun can reveal an overdose was the cause of the collapse.

The 23-year-old, who had a huge hit with Rehab earlier this year, has admitted using marijuana and cocaine.

She has also been boozing heavily. And the desperately deteriorating state of the jazzy singer, who has pulled out of several recent gigs, led to her being nicknamed Amy Declinehouse in The Sun’s Bizarre column.

The gap-toothed star — voted Best British Female at the Brits — collapsed hours after being nominated for three top gongs at the MTV Video Music Awards.

She is in the running for Best Video, Female Artist of the Year and Best Newcomer.

And she is due to perform at next month’s ceremony in Las Vegas. A witness who saw Amy’s 1am arrival at the hospital told how she was in a “real state”. The observer added: “She was falling over and stumbling around. She didn’t look well at all.

“She was with a female friend and a bloke who I think was her husband. He was wearing a trilby.

“They came in and went straight up to the reception desk. Her friends looked really worried about her.

“The bloke was holding her up because she couldn’t really stand on her own. Her girlfriend was doing all the talking and the receptionist seemed to be listening very carefully.

“That’s when I realised Amy must have been really ill because although there was a big crowd of people in the waiting area, she was rushed straight through.

“A nurse came over and helped Amy into the main part of the hospital.”

A close friend of the singer said: “We’ve been terrified something like this would happen for months.Amy has lost the plot and her partying is out of control. We are praying this is the wake-up call she needs.”

Blake, 25, spent yesterday shuttling between the couple’s home in Camden, North London, and the hospital.

The ashen-faced husband refused to comment when asked how Amy was.

Amy’s father Mitch is also thought to have paid a visit to her bedside in a private treatment room.

The singer was discharged last night and left the hospital by a back entrance.

Blake was seen outside his home smiling and clutching a bouquet of flowers for his wife.

Amy, whose album Back to Black topped the charts, burst on the music scene four years ago as a healthy Size 12.

But now she is painfully thin and pale.

And concerned pals have been bombarding her management with calls, saying her wild partying could kill her.

In one interview Amy admitted: “I have had problems with my weight.”

She added: “Everyone was going on about it being caused by cocaine but it wasn’t a drugs thing.

“I was somewhere between being bulimic and anorexic, and I wasn’t well.

“The thing is you’d be surprised how many girls have had eating problems at some point.

“Mine was triggered by splitting up with my last boyfriend.

“I was doing a few drugs but only dabbling. Cocaine isn’t really my thing and I was never really on it.”

Amy married Fielder-Civil two months ago at a secret ceremony in Miami.

But some friends and relatives believe his rock ’n roll lifestyle is a bad influence on her.

Fielder-Civil has joked about crack cocaine use on the MySpace website and uploaded pictures of himself looking “wasted”.

In one image a deathly pale Blake slumps against a tatty sofa over the caption: “Really, don’t ever bother with crack.”

He goes by the name of El Diablo and has a picture of him kissing Amy on the friends’ network.

He describes himself as married, his occupation as “rent boy” and says he earns more than £250,000 a year.

His interests include “general music and drinking and getting into the most trouble around.” He adds: “I also like dancing, singing and pleasing my wife.”

Amy was due to sing at festivals in Norway and Denmark over the next few days. But last night both appearances were cancelled.

She is due to support the Rolling Stones in Germany on Monday. And her next scheduled appearance in Britain is at the V Festival on August Bank Holiday weekend.
