Arrow BBC's Rio 2016 coverage unveiled

They had the press launch today and after months of me searching for this info...it's finally arrived!

You can read the full press pack here, but to summarise:
  • More than 3,000 hours of Olympics coverage across all BBC platforms
  • 550 hours of coverage on BBC One and BBC Four
  • Full coverage on BBC Radio 5 live, plus the Paralympics on 5 live and 5 live Sports Extra
  • Olympic legends Sir Steve Redgrave, Sir Chris Hoy, Victoria Pendleton and Michael Johnson also part of stellar line-up
  • IBF world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua joins BBC team
  • Up to 24 live HD video streams deliver every single moment of Rio 2016
  • Personalise BBC Sport’s digital Olympics service with the BBC Sport website and app

Here's the scheduling details, which you can see along with each sports' coverage team in full here:

Quote:
With 550 hours of network coverage across 17 days of world-class sporting action, the BBC brings unparalleled access of Rio 2016 to its television audiences.
Building on the huge success of London 2012, the BBC will have an elite team of former Great Britain Olympic athletes out in Rio.

Unparalleled expertise and knowledge will come from sporting legends such as Sir Chris Hoy, Denise Lewis, Beth Tweddle, Sir Steve Redgrave, Rebecca Adlington and Sir Clive Woodward, who will give their own unique insight into the key sporting moments, bringing audiences closer to all the action.

Making his BBC debut, Olympic and IBF world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua will also be out in Rio sharing with viewers his thoughts and insight on the medal hopefuls in the ring.

The BBC’s live coverage of the Games begins with the Opening Ceremony on BBC One on Friday 5 August, with Hazel Irvine and Andrew Cotter providing commentary from the Maracană Stadium as the formalities get underway.

The following afternoon, Hazel kicks off BBC One’s live daily coverage, which continues throughout the Games from 1pm until 4am. Clare Balding and Mark Chapman will guide viewers through the live action each day from 7pm-midnight, with Jason Mohammad taking over from midnight until 4am.

Ore Oduba will welcome viewers to BBC Four daily between 1-7pm, while Dan Walker will anchor the channel from 7pm until the end of the day’s action.

Bringing viewers right to the centre of the drama, Gabby Logan will be in position at the Olympics Park to present Athletics, while Clare Balding will be trackside at the Velodrome for Cycling. From the Aquatics Centre, Helen Skelton fronts Swimming with Matt Baker at the Olympics Arena for Gymnastics and John Inverdale live at the Lagoa Stadium for the Rowing.

The live sporting action concludes on 21 August, when Hazel and Andrew will again oversee proceedings for BBC One’s coverage of the closing ceremony as the celebrations come to an end and Rio’s Olympic flame is extinguished.

BBC Sport and BBC News will join forces throughout the Games to bring a special edition of BBC Breakfast. The famous sofa will move home and come live from the centre of BBC Sport’s hub to bring viewers all the highlights and extended Games coverage every day from 6am. This is followed by a replay programme with all the best bits on BBC Two from 9.15am to 1pm.

Friday, 5 August, BBC One

Coverage begins with the Opening Ceremony from Maracană Stadium in Rio with commentary by Hazel Irvine and Andrew Cotter.

From Saturday, 6 August and for the duration of the Olympic Games the BBC One and BBC Four schedule is as follows:

BBC One / BBC Two

06:00-09:15: BBC Breakfast
09:15-13:00: Replay of the best of the overnight action (BBC Two)
1300-1900 UK - Hazel Irvine
1900-0000 UK - Clare Balding / Mark Chapman
0000-0400 UK – Jason Mohammad

BBC Four and BBC Four HD
1300-1800 UK - Ore Oduba
1800-0100 UK - Dan Walker
0100-0400 UK - live action**
And finally:

Quote:
The build up to Rio 2016 kicks off with the much-anticipated Olympics Games marketing campaign. This year, the trail and title sequence will be part of an animated campaign which will transpose the human world of sport to the animal world. The animation will show a world of stunning forest stadiums, inspired by Rio’s Tijuca Forest, while the skills and strength of the athletes will be brought to life by Brazilian animals. The trail makes its TV debut on 10 July during the Euro 2016 final on BBC One.

Delighted they're providing wall-to-wall coverage again it's a shame the 24 streams won't be on Freeview and Sky again but there will be up to 8 of them on the red button which is something!

I'm sad Clare isn't fronting the swimming again but Helen Skelton's doing a good enough job so it isn't too bad. Anyway, can't wait now!

Sort of figured that the 24 channels showing pretty much everything at one time wouldn't be returning, it was obviously done to make London seem massive.

But 8 will do I guess, plus the websites usually put up live streams of events going on anyway

No Jonathan Edwards for Athletics coverage He's far better than Gabby at being the main host, Gabby doesn't seem to know what's going on most of the time. Neither does Denise but I'm here for here and Colin's messy convos and airtime they always end up getting

I was very surprised to see Jonathan Edwards' name not on the list too, perhaps he's working exclusively with C4 for the Paralympics? Perched for Colin and Denise's screaming at the races <3

It's a shame Jake Humphrey and Gary Lineker have BT Sport commitments because I'd like to have seen them heading up some of the BBC1 coverage like they did last time.

Not too fussed about Jonathan (something I'm often saying @Firewire), as long as Michael Johnson, Clare Balding and Hazel Irvine are there it's all good

Well I have to say they've done another stellar job covering an Olympics the anchors have been brilliant, sets amazing, montages incredible, the list goes on

The only complaint I have was the incessant channel changing, I get they were trying to sustain EastEnders but Christ couldn't it (and Countryfile) have just been moved to BBC2 like it was for London?

I can only dread to think what it's going to be like with a reduction in free to air coverage for Tokyo when they're sharing it with Discovery

EastEnders died when it moved to BBC2 for London so I can see why they didn't want to do that again

But yeah the coverage has been fantastic
