Default Travelling

I wanted to make this thread to just find out a little bit more about travelling, as my friend and I are hoping on doing this next year. We kind of have a plan of some sort on where we want to go (mainly europe/asia) but i'm just wondering if any of you have ever done travelling yourself, like to the extent of a couple of months (and more)

The main thing i'm wanting to find out is how much money exactly should you try and save, or any tips some of you may have in general, like the best places to go, planning the trip, etc.

the basics:

Make sure you have at least twice as much money as you think you will need
research your route, always have a fallback plan, emergency escape route
If you don't have enough money for your whole trip, plan where you are going to work first, where, for how long and who with.

Get all the usual travel books. Some may be well out dated, but they get you in to a way of thinking.

Make sure you have appropriate insurance/health cover where ever you will be

Lots more, but that will do as a start.

Have a look into STA Travel, I know a couple of people who've done it through them and got a really good deal.

I'd agree with what bots said, also things like looking into if you'd need vaccinations for certain places, and specific laws of where you're going.
