Parents Television Council Slams The Walking Dead Premiere; Pushes to Remove AMC From Cable Bundles

This is hilarious. It's a show about reanimated corpses eating people.

Why is it that these parenting groups always expect everyone else to parent their kids for them?

Don't want your kids watching TWD? Don't let them and stop expecting the world to pick up your slack.

Part of their argument seems to be that it isn't an "optional" channel, so by paying for their cable bundle they are "helping to fund this sort of thing". The whole thing is ridiculous... other than TV being entirely pay-per-view how can anyone expect to only be funding the things that they, personally, want to be on TV?

Also in the article... one of the guys quoted spouts on about the violence clearly being a replacement for good writing and storytelling, before admitting that he hasn't actually seen the whole episode and only watched clips of the most violent parts .

He's not lying tbh but yes, their argument as a whole is ridiculous.

I only thought it was vaguely beyond what was necessary... I actually don't think the sheer raw brutality of the character could have been established without it. He carries out these acts without wincing or flinching even slightly, and the episode had to capture that, or all you have is The Governor Mk.2.

On top of that - they're not even the most graphic scenes that TWD has shown. Is it purely because it's human-on-human violence rather than zombie-on-human that people are so sickened? There's been as much gore plenty of times, when it comes to walkers. I'm trying to put my finger on exactly why people have found these particular scenes so far above others.

These idiots have the power of OFCOM minus the ability to fine

If they're too lazy to put on parental controls then they shouldn't have cable

I haven't seen it, can't get that channel on freesat, so rely on the spoilers and reading this thread. Maybe though as Rick was faced with cutting his own son's arm off, instead of the others like Maggie killing Negan when the time comes and the situation allows, then cut both Negan's arms off and let him die by being zombiefied and not able to fight back.

The violence was perfect and a great tribute to the comic book. I'm glad they didn't shy away from it.

Well if it roughly follows the comics then

Spoiler:

Negan doesn't die at all as a new larger threat appears toward the end of this story arc and rick simply imprisons him for reasons the comics go into more depth about, though tbh hes not really integral beyond that point so they may just bump him off and have done with it, and he does indeed have a bit of a weird friend relationship with coral but not mentor as such more corrupter or attempted corrupter

Personally I hated Glenn glad hes dead actually cheered when he got whacked ! The episode as a whole though was the usual WD fare it pulls to much these days, 20 ish minutes of content dragged out over 1 hour. The Fall which just wrapped up on bbc 2 did slow burn not much going on but did it properly to raise tension TWD just sometimes drags in a boring not tense way.

The whole bit with rick in the bus was weird and boring and totally out of character imo, also tbf Negan could have done much worse considering Rick and his gang mercilessly butchered 20+ of his men for no real reason.

I do agree with that bit - we've had several reasons setting up the fact that Rick as an individual is a skilled, ruthless, and brutal killer. The power that Negan has established over him is that he is also that, but also has the advantage of numbers and seemingly zero morality... which means that he can set up things like the line-up - using Rick's loved ones, and the numbers advantage, to show them that they have no hope of escape or fighting back (they could try, might even take out Negan if they're quick and lucky, but they are surrounded and would all die).

SO... they then sort of ruin that by having Negan take Rick off just the two of them and still dominate him. As soon as it was one-on-one, realistically, Rick had a very good chance of finding a way to take out Negan. Maybe he would fail, but he would certainly try, and it would be a fairly evenly matched situation... why would Negan risk that?

Really enjoyed the second episode. Much quieter than the premiere but I think that was needed (and I love Carol and Morgan so any episode focusing heavily on those two is bound to me good for me ).

I love Ezekiel and Shiva already I really like Jerry too, he's gonna be good value so I hope we see more of him.

Yeah great contrast and one in the eye for..it's all violence and no storyline I particularly liked that the pigs were gorging on the dead and then given to Negan and co

Loving Ezekiel, Ben, Jerry, and of course Shiva

Was pleased to see Carol and Morgan again.

Spoiler:

...I loved this episode, it was probably one of my favourites of all of them so far...Negan is sadistic and brutal but now that he's resting Lucille for a while, he's strangely fascinating as well....eeeek...it was good to hear Dwight's story and realise how he had come to be there and that he's nothing like Negan but has to act similar to survive and for his wife to as well...Daryl was slightly annoying because why didn't he just pretend and kneel and fool Negan.../poor Daryl.....and things are not going to go well for Dwight and his wife when Negan finds that they've tried to make things easier for Daryl in trying to get him to kneel.../great episode, I love the psychology stuff....
