Hmm I've just seen on twitter that now people are sighting a petition demanding that the electors put Hillary in office because she got the popular vote.

Yeah I saw that sometime today and it had an absurd amount of votes. If they did something like that though (which I'd never heard of), it would only make things a lot worse. Not only would it set supporters on either side even more against the other, but would turn the govt upside down on itself as I'm sure many of them would not just idlely go along with this decision...

They really would have chaos if they tried to put Hillary in office, even though that is what I would have preferred to see.
They really should, I doubt they will, look at this electoral college votes.

The votes from the individual States for that electoral college are not representing the votes cast by the voters.
A big so called democratic power such as the USA should never have someone as president who didn't get the most votes across the whole country.
That really is ridiculous.
Twice now, with Clinton and also Gore this has happened.

That should not be acceptable anywhere that operates democratic voting.

The UK system is really bad but it is still the case that the party who leads in the voting does usually get to be the govt; or a major part of the govt;
2 exceptions to that in 1951, then also in feb 19974 when Labour became a minority govt with slightly less votes than the Conservatives but held firmly to account by the other parties in Westminster.

However this man in the USA, has been given a resounding mandate from the electoral college while getting less votes overall.
Something is wrong with the way the electoral college votes are set up and distributed for that to be able to happen.

In a country like the USA,seen as a democratic superpower, this is and should be, totally unacceptable.

I say good luck to all protesters who would want to try to get that changed and anyone who wants it changed should be making as much noise as they can about doing so.

Yes, to change the voting system in the USA you really will have to alter the constitution, and that aint happening.

The best way to affect change is to get the people who dont vote, to vote

simple as

Not sure what your point is arista and I honestly couldn't care if I make you angry, I will say what I think.

I still say strongly, it is ridiculous to have a system where the leader of any powerful Nation that is deemed democratic, can come to power and not have got the most votes in an election nationwide.

You mention, as I did, Al Gore and Bush, well look what happened there when that came about.
Bush got less votes than Gore, a good half a million less in fact.
Yet became President,I think that is and should be,unacceptable.

That resulted too in getting a President in Bush, who was determined to finish the job his Father started in Iraq.
I doubt no good will come from it happening again this time either.

Odd you mention UKIP, you are from what I have read over the years anyway, a seemingly strong advocate of the UKs current electoral system.
That system is the reason UKIP got so many votes and yet only a single MP elected to Parliament.

I do not like UKIP, I do however believe in fairness which is why I now would like to see a PR system in the UK, where people really know when they are voting, that their vote will carry real weight and not be lost.
As it is even moreso now, when a party can get just over a third of votes cast but get an overall majority to do what they like afterwards.
Equally unacceptable to me that is.

I agree totally that it was shocking for so many voting UKIP to only see one MP elected to Parliament from their efforts and votes.
That to me is wrong and what a slap in the face to those voters that really is in a so called democracy.
Yet we dare wonder and question why so many do not vote in the UK.

There is however only one party that will block any way it can and never ever come round to changing our voting system, and that is the Conservative party.

Go Joey. Whup that Green Giant's ass - Show him the real power of the LEFT followed by a RIGHT CROSS.

Just joking Arista.

Seriously Joey, I agree with your fair and balanced post, and though I am personally against these type of protests, as long as they ARE law abiding, well, to hell with it, let them protest.

...it's so much that we're being told that things like Brexit (for Some) and Trump's vote (for some) are partly because of people feeling unable to voice/feeling restricted in their voice with the old PCs...that's being factored in a bit...so then it's thought wrong to have a voice in protest, that voice is being told to hush up because it's pointless...?...so the democratic right is now trying to quash the democratic right because it wasn't happy enough for them and didn't get there victory pancake breakfast and say hoooorahhh... dancing in the streets would have been fine and dandy maybe but protesting is a no....

...(so long as it's peaceful and doesn't lead to rioting/violence etc..)...then let them have their voice, let them have their protest because it's only fair and right as Trump has had his protest voice in these results../let it all be fair and let people speak if they feel the need to because if it's feeling that people can't speak, have felt unable to that have been part of results for these things..?../then it's bang on wrong to say they shouldn't happen....

...we shouldn't expect to have results and acknowledgements for the protest vote and not expect possible protests against...large amounts of people need their voices heard, whether it be deemed pointless or not when it's so often been said that, that's been partly a problem in the first place, the feeling of having no voice...

It is their law and I think it needs changing just as ours does too as the electoral system.
Hopefully more will protest about how people vote and get the change needed too.
Which I would support all the way.

I think you misread my post as to me saying I care or couldn't care about making you angry but you are arista a one off.

One day I would love lunch, not crazy about lobster though, would you be paying? and would I need earplugs.
Probably the cafe/restuarant would be cleared once we got going.

Sounds interesting arista.

I am easy going on food really,I do not eat a lot of meat but will try anything once.
I prefer what I call proper roast dinners however and outside of that it would be Chinese dishes or Italian in the main.

Anyway keeping to the topic here, I hope the protesters get their frustrations out and it seems now today, even Trump has moderated his thoughts on them.
He doesn't appear to be very consistent in his thinking or what he says to me.

..behave yourself Johnny....let her supporters/voters blow off steam a bit, it's been pretty gruelling and so far it's been very peaceful..USA Trump voters have four years to celebrate their victory..(or regret the day they put their tick next to Trump......)...let others show their disappointment/sorrow and have a few moments in time to have their voice...would Trump not want that and approve that with his generosity of heart and gracefulness...(or something like that last bit....)...
