Conscription only ever really happens when you know that something bad is on the horizon, the UK at the moment is safe and our current armed forces are fully capable of performing their duties.

Denmark has never stopped with conscription and there seems to be no negative attitudes towards it by the young people here. If they are totally against military service they are not 'press ganged' into it, after all why would you want unwilling participants? However it does mean that unemployed young men and women sometimes find that it gives them a leg up in the job market. Even if they don't stay in the military after their two year service, it reflects well on them when looking for a job as well as giving them experience in a field that they might otherwise not experience.
