Today marks 6 years since Aaliyah was tragically killed in a preventable airplane accident.
Her music is incredible and she was sexy without being in your face about it. Her music and image proved that less is always more and the young female stars of today could learn a lot from her. Her music isn't for pop fans with short attention spans and almost all of her songs take a few listens to truly appreciate. They stay with you longer too. Listening to her music reminds me of the phrase "quality over quantity". She worked with Timbaland and Missy Elliott before their careers took off. Most of the beats on Aaliyah's tracks are produced by Timbaland, and in my opinion, they are 10 times better than anything he's done with Justin or Nelly. Her biggest hit was Try Again, for the movie Romeo Must Die, which she also starred in. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuIVnj0mIPI (Timbaland features in the video too) When asked who he gets along best with in the studio, Timbaland answered "Aaliyah. There was a special chemistry". Her career was cut short but it shows what an impact she's had by how she is still remembered and referenced by everyone in the hip hop/R&B community. Just last year, I attended a Jay Z concert and he did a remix rap to her song I Miss You with a big collage of her music videos playing on the background screen. If she had had the chance to continue her career, I don't doubt she'd be one of the biggest stars today. Possibly bigger than Beyonce and we wouldn't have had to put up with Ciara either. Other videos : Rock The Boat : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XtO3e7rF8kI One In A Million : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfpreDgN5qk I Miss You(Her close friends lip syncing) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Fkw7jWHW_o We Need A Resolution : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDEp__ZjYfI one of my favourite artists of all time, and im a proud owner of all her albums and most of her singles RIP |

Thanks for that. I love her music to this day. "At your best you are love" is one of my favourites. Such a waste of a talent.

She was great. I still listen to her songs - I always felt like they had real, deep meanings which is unique and different to a lot of singers out there. The 6 years have flown by - I can't believe it's been 6 already! She's been remembered for so long, and I'm sure will be for years to come.
