Dancing on Ice to return later this year?
Quote:
Dancing On Ice is set for a return to TV screens on ITV after three years away.
And according to reports, it could be back on telly as soon as this year.
Dancing On Ice last aired on ITV on Sunday nights back in 2014 but follow up shows have failed to get the same ratings.
The Sun newspaper now says that ITV boss Kevin Lygo is set to get Dancing On Ice back with the show on the "hitlist for 2017".
“It was a smash hit, and even at its worst was still pulling in more [viewers] than some of the shows currently on telly – particularly in the Sunday night slot," a source explained. “It’s very early days and nothing has been commissioned just yet but it’s definitely on the to-do list."
The insider added: “Dance Dance Dance was OK but it didn’t set the world alight.
“This would be a perfect trade.”
Speaking last year, Lygo admitted he was always a big fan of the show and felt it should've continued.
“I think when Dancing On Ice was cut, it was felt, ‘oh we need to refresh, it’s gone down a bit in the ratings," he said. "I watched it, it was the most lovely family show and a really good feeling and distinctive and brilliantly produced, and actually I wish it had gone on a bit longer."
When it was last on air, Dancing On Ice was fronted by Philip Schofield and Christine Bleakley with judges Robin Cousins, Karen Barber, Jason Gardiner and Ashley Roberts.
The series, which concluded with an 'All Stars' special won by Ray Quinn, also featured winter Olympic gold medal ice skaters Christopher Dean and Jayne Torvill.
A spokesperson for ITV declined to comment on the report.
