Default A thought

Ive seen a lot of debate about whether or not BB will be renewed in years to come. I thought to myself a complete rebrand (following the North American format) would do the show some good in the sense that it's completely different and can spark some life into the show -allowing less room for petty, drama causing tasks and more of the ones we see in US, Canada.

Although this would go down horribly with the UK public because we hate having no say - would the BB:OTT Format go down well? It keeps the gameplay aspect that the show needs, but allows Britain to choose one nominee, place an eviction vote and have FULL CONTROL over the winner.

Public voting is the best thing about the show, take that away and youve got geordie shore with rules

I haven't seen BBOTT but I'm all for a format change to the BBCAN rules. People often say it wouldn't work because the public wouldn't accept not having a vote but I think people overestimate the importance of the public vote in BB. How many people actually vote? I don't know the figures but I'd guess it's only a small percentage of viewers. Most people who watch BB are just casual viewers who wouldn't bother to spend money voting on it anyway, they don't really care about the 'you decide' aspect, they just watch the show and want to be entertained and that's the main thing for them, and the reason it continually loses viewers is because over time it naturally becomes less interesting to watch the same type of thing year after year. So if the format took away the public vote but made it a better more entertaining or just different type of show then I really don't think the majority of viewers would be bothered at all, and with it being a fresh new format that most people haven't seen, it might actually increase viewership/interest in the show. Hardcore fans of the show and people who vote every week might be put off but I don't think there's enough of them to make that much difference, and if the format changes do improve the show I think most of them would probably come around anyway.

They need to at the very least trial it, run a mini series with full BBCAN rules (I think compromising between the two different formats would weaken the format, if they're going to change things up then do it probably) and just see what happens. If it bombs then go back to how it is now, and if it's successful then it could totally revitalise the show which it needs, I feel a bit like it's on it's last legs right now.

The public don't make good decisions though, and hear after year there are thousands of soicial media complaints about the winner.

Why are they complaining? Because their favourite didn't win. Why didn't their favourite win? Because they didn't vote. And not many people do vote.

And I don't see Geordie Shore cast member being strategic and actually thinking about the best way to play the game. In fact there is no game on GS. So it's not really a valid comparison.

I think it's about time to move to free voting. Other RTV shows have it, BB should do as well. People would feel more involved that way, now that the LF is long time gone.

A format that's a mix of BBUS and BBUK with public voting would be cute

Im fine with this. But then again, I'm fine with any form of consistent nomination process. The inconsistent nom rules are the worst thing about bbuk.

If uk did bbott it would be crap because all the good ones could go. If someone especially a female/person of colour called someone a **** etc they will be hated and will be put up.

I think a format that would be consistent and fair and also provide the constant drama that Channel 5 crave would be:

Each week one Housemate becomes head of house by winning a Task.

The HoH gets to live in a luxury suite and gives a killer nomination to one Housemate, this would be done face to face for maximum drams.

The rest of the housemates nominate as normal in the diary room later in the week, and the three or more with the most votes will also face eviciton.

The house would then have a veto task, the winner is allowed to save and replace one of the nominated housemates if they wish, again face to face for maximum drama.

On eviction night, the two housemates with the least public votes to save will face a house vote
(face to face) and whoever gets the most votes to evict gets the boot. If it's a tie the HoH has the deciding vote.

the majority of the entertaining housemates would be gone the second they were up if we had a us/can format, like kim in january... no way would she have lasted as long as she did. we never get good winners but at least the public vote -usually- keeps one or two fun people in the finale. take that away and we'd be guaranteed a finale of bores every year tbh.

Just put in 16 strong personalities who are guaranteed to clash and let them get on with it. Our format isn't the problem, it's the shoddy production who feel the need to interfere when things don't go their own way (the same can be said for BBUS which is somehow even more rigged than our version) BB17 struck gold with the casting which luckily made it a decent series and it would've been even better with a production team who knew what they were doing.

BBCAN usually have better casts and a better production team (something both modern BBUK/US lack), that's why their show is the most superior at the moment, not because of their format. It's also worth mentioning that BBCan is in its fifth season, by the time BBUK was in its fifth series, it was already in its peak.

i just dont see it being a success, for the reasons that you mentioned in your OP. i cant think of an elimination show without a public vote in the uk that lasted more than 2 series'.

I made a thread like this after CBB, I'd love to see the format over here.

The only reason they have the voting is to get the money from it unfortunately.
