Big Brother got so tired of its own show it took the afternoon off yesterday, leaving the contestants to fend for themselves.

In a sign that even Channel 4 thinks the show has gone on too long this summer, they quit the diary room and left Jonty to sit in as Big Brother.

Housemates going in had to talk about their experiences and how they were feeling with the geeky virgin instead of a member of the Endemol production crew.

They were also given £100 and a selection of takeaway menus and told to order what they liked.

Dippy twin Amanda said: "I haven't seen money for ages, I don't get it."

In a change from the normal rules, they were even allowed to discuss nominations.

After spending time advising Ziggy in the diary room, "Big Jonty" said: "It was brilliant."
