So my daughter keeps wanting to cycle to and from school now that she has finally learned to ride her bike, and I've been going with her on my bike. It's a decent bike, was like £550 three years ago. It's been in the shed for like... 2 and 9/10ths of a year. AND NOW when I brake, it goes "HHHYYYNNNNNNNYYYAAARRRKKKK!!!".
Like I also rode it to the shop last night at 9.45pm and I was all "OMG it's a school night I'll be waking up the whole town" because they are THAT loud. And today when I took her to school, I just used my feet to stop like a toddler, because I didn't want to announce her arrival at the school gates like RRRRNNNNNNNEEEEERRRKKKKKKKK. So anyway. How do I fix that? Someone is bound to know. |

You can google the best way to clean them, I can't be bothered asking hubby how to do it as it will be me sat with eyes glazing over while I get at least a good 15 minutes of him explaining it and me getting lost at the 5th word. |

They're probably a bit stiff and rusty after sitting in the shed for that long, did you oil them?

Google says the pads need cleaned but they're all posh like inside a mechanism at the centre of the wheel that would need to be opened up . When I was a kid I'm sure the brake pads were just right there in your face! I should probably just take it somewhere and let a real adult have a look. ...adjust the brake blocks so that the front touches the wheel rim 1st (toe in..this is what it's referenced as)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0bELYXNI88 ...as others say make sure that the brake block/rim is clean ..good luck! Mark L |

We would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids.
