IMO its never 'too soon' for jokes. Jokes like this are supposed to be 'shocking'

Bradley Walsh made a similar joke on Jonathan Ross last night. There was a gap on the sofa between him and the other guests and he told them to move up saying "I'm not Harvey Weinstein."
